Tennocon, sometimes stylised as TennoCon, is a yearly event held in London, Canada, where Warframe developers Digital Extremes are based. Every year, the developers host a series of panels, activities, and tease upcoming content for Warframe, leading to high viewership as fans of the series enthusiastically tune into the event through livestreaming platforms.
Tennocon 2024 was one of the most exciting iterations of the annual convention ever, and viewership for this year’s convention rose dramatically compared to the previous couple of years. Warframe’s Tennocon 2024 began on July 19, but the livestreamed show from the official Warframe Twitch channel kicked off on the following and final day of the convention.
At the 2024 event, the Warframe developers not only teased an upcoming expansion for Warframe, titled Warframe: 1999, but also an entirely new title, and much more. Digital Extremes’ new upcoming game, Soulframe, has caught a lot of attention, and the previews given at Tennocon 2024 helped the event to become one of the most popular in years.
The official Warframe channel was live for over 7 hours on Saturday, July 20. Throughout the day, the Twitch channel generated 1.96M Hours Watched for itself, and held a viewership of 266.8K Average Viewers.
Viewership for the event quickly picked up traction after the broadcast began, but the peak viewership was reached towards the tail-end of the broadcast, when Warframe developers began teasing upcoming content and updates coming to their title. In the end, the broadcast reached 420.9K Peak Viewers, roughly 134K concurrent viewers more at peak than last year’s TennoCon 2023 broadcast.
These viewership statistics reflect the performance of the broadcast from Warframe’s official Twitch channel, not the viewership of the event as a whole. However, Esports Charts tracks viewership data for the entire event, rather than just Warframe’s own channel. For example, TennoCon 2023 was broadcast by over 100 Twitch channels, and Esports Charts’ statistics reflect all of these channels, and viewership from other livestreaming platforms too.
Below, we have the most popular channels to cover Tennocon 2024, powered by Esports Charts’ event viewership statistics.
This year’s Tennocon was so popular the viewership for the Warframe Twitch channel was higher than the combined total peak viewership of the past two event series iterations. Aside from the official Warframe Twitch account, not many streamers to cover the event received comparably significant viewership.
Content creator moistcr1tikal received 9.5K PV for his Twitch coverage, and another 4.7K PV recorded for his YouTube Live broadcast. The North American streamer was the most-popular content creator to cover the event, coming out just ahead of rival CohhCarnage. CohhCarnage received 9.1K PV for his stream covering the event, significantly more than the next-most-popular creator, Silvervale. Silvervale’s PV during the event was actually markedly more popular than her usual content, for which the same cannot be said for moistcr1tikal and CohhCarnage, who achieved arguably below average viewership.
All three of these content creators were just some of the personalities and influencers sponsored by the event. Each of these top creators had either #sponsored or #ad in their stream title, displaying openly that they were sponsored by Warframe to cover Tennocon. Despite the sponsorship deals, these unofficial broadcasts of the event were much, much less popular than the official Warframe broadcast.
Excluding co-casters and other channels influencing the event’s overall viewership, let’s look at Warframe’s Twitch channel’s most popular broadcasts, which is a more stable tool for comparing the performance of these yearly conventions.
Tennocon 2024 became the second-most-popular iteration of the event series ever, falling just under 20K concurrent viewers behind the record peak achieved at the 2021 event. Since this record-setting event, viewership for Tennocon has historically struggled, but no more.
The 2022 and 2023 editions of the convention marked a significant downturn for the convention series’ viewership, with the 2023 iteration not even ranking within this top 5, but rather taking the spot as the channel’s sixth-most-popular stream with 286.9K PV.
Tennocon’s swift viewership turnaround for their 2024 event is a serious achievement for the Warframe developers. Viewership for the game overall on Twitch has also been rising this year, with average viewership higher than the game has seen in the past couple of years. Warframe in general seems to be entering a renaissance period, with the game’s Twitch viewership increasing, alongside growing attention and viewership for their yearly Tennocon events.
Next year’s Tennocon will be Warframe’s chance to prove this result was no fluke, and that they can continue to grow their viewership and find new ways to excite audiences. However, this is for far in the future, and Warframe will first be looking towards a successful release for its 1999 update, as well as its sister-game Soulframe’s release, hopefully later this year.
