The story of streaming icon — TimTheTatman’s Twitch career overview

Shortly after DrLupo’s unforeseen platform transfer to Youtube Gaming, another huge announcement dropped on the streamer community in recent weeks. Timothy “TimTheTatman” Betar had also signed an exclusive contract with Youtube, leaving Twitch after nine years of streaming on the platform.

Similarly to DrLupo, Tim’s main motivation behind the move is his ability to spend more time with his family. He explained in an interview for Business Insider: “When I started, I had no family obligations and I could do a lot of hours. The reality is, now that I've got my wife and my son, it's hard for me to stream as much as I did beforehand."

Stressing the importance of finding balance in his life, he added: "For me, and the point I'm at right now and what I'm looking at as far as the future, YouTube feels like the perfect fit."

TimTheTatman’s Twitch streaming career

TimThetatman has come a long way since he started streaming in 2012, broadcasting a variety of games such as Call of Duty: Black Ops IICounter-Strike: Global Offensive and World of Warcraft.

A full-time content creator since 2014, Tim has gained a lot of recognition thanks to playing Overwatch, before switching over to Fortnite as his new main game. The freshly released battle royale, according to Tim’s words, had made him much happier.

His popularity skyrocketed with the Fortnite boom in 2018. At the end of 2019, after his follower count hit the mark of 4 million, Tim signed a multi-year exclusive deal with Twitch.

With more than 7 million followers, he is currently the 11th most-followed channel on Twitch.

Viewership milestones

During his Twitch streaming career, TimTheTatman has hit multiple milestones. Ironically, his biggest viewership success was reached thanks to failing to win in Fall Guys after days of trying. In the end, his most successful stream on August 19th, 2020, which peaked at 347.3K concurrent viewers, saw him finally win his first game of Fall Guys.

It was not just Tim’s failing that attracted so many spectators, but rather his raw emotions and pure frustration from the game. On average, 183K viewers tuned in to see Tim struggle, which is also the highest Average Viewer count in his career. The stream garnered 1.19M Hours Watched and 74K new followers for the channel.

His most-watched stream by Hours Watched took place on April 7th, 2020, when Riot Games’ highly anticipated FPS title Valorant came into closed beta. The event, which included Twitch viewership drop rewards, itself marked extraordinary numbers, hitting 1.7M Peak Viewers on the first day of closed beta.

TimTheTatman’s Valorant broadcast on this day accumulated 1.35M Hours Watched during 14 hours of Air Time. It’s worth noting that Tim’s stream, just like other popular streamers’ broadcasts, also featured Twitch drops as a part of the collaboration with Riot Games.

In 2018, Tim joined GuardianCon’s charity stream marathon for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, supposedly raising more than $106,000 during his 4 hours-long streaming block alone.

Tim’s longest stream took place in August 2019, when he streamed World of Warcraft for over 20 hours

The Top 5 most-watched categories streamed by TimTheTatman in 2020 and 2021 were Call of Duty: Warzone, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Valorant, Just Chatting and Fortnite.

He was banned on Twitch only once for 8 minutes, which is possibly the shortest ban in Twitch history. His channel accumulated 261M Total Views.

The start of Tim’s Youtube journey

TimTheTatman’s first Youtube stream took place on September 2nd and included appearances from DrLupoCouRageJD and Dr. Disrespect. Tim’s reunion with Dr. Disrespect was a moment anticipated by many fans, as the two streaming buddies weren’t able to stream together since Doc’s abrupt departure from Twitch in August 2020. According to our data, TimTheTatman’s stream peaked at 116K concurrent viewers.

Just a few days after the reunion, Tim joined forces with Dr. Disrespect and ZLaner for a $50,000 Warzone tournament, which attracted 227.7K Peak Viewers and 185.3K Average Viewers, accumulating 988.4K Hours Watched

At the time of writing this article, Tim’s Youtube channel has attracted over 4M subscribers. Based on these numbers, it seems that TimTheTatman’s popularity won’t be negatively affected by the streamer’s platform transfer. Just like in DrLupo’s case, Youtube Gaming apparently offers plenty of room for streamers to grow.
