The year 2022 saw the release of many games, which aroused great interest not only among gamers, but also among the audience of the streaming platforms. In a new Streams Charts article, we will tell you about the most successful game releases of 2022 on Twitch.

Elden Ring was released on February 25 and had the best start on Twitch, accumulating more than 172.4 million Hours Watched in the first month of release. Moreover, the novelty by FromSoftware attracted 909.8K Peak Viewers and 120.1K Average Viewers, taking second place by each of the metrics. It was also the leader by Peak Broadcast Channels (over 24K). Considering its impressive performance, it's no surprise that Elden Ring had been awarded Game of the Year at many annual awards, including The Game Awards.

Overwatch fans had been waiting for the release of the second installment for several years and finally got what they wanted on October 4, 2022. In the first month after the release, Overwatch 2 accumulated almost 143 million Hours Watched17% fewer than Elden Ring. At the same time, the game has become the leader of the ranking by Average Viewers with the result of 121.6K, and also ranks third by Peak Viewers (634.6K). Overwatch 2's impressive viewership numbers were partly owed to the official Twitch Drops that took place on the game's broadcasts in the first month.

Lost Ark was released in December 2019, but the release of the game in Europe and North America took place on February 11, 2022. This MMORPG immediately gained huge popularity on Twitch, amassing more than 125.7 million HW in the first month (3rd place). The game is also a leader in the ranking by PV, attracting more than 1 million concurrent viewers, and takes third place by AV (108.9K). Lost Ark's impressive first month statistics were attributed in part to the Twitch Drops taking place on the broadcasts.

FIFA 23, released on September 26th and, according to Electronic Arts, had the best start in the history of the franchise, is in fourth place in the ranking. In the first month of the release the game amassed more than 75.6 million Hours Watched, 40% fewer than Lost Ark's respective metric. In addition, the football simulator attracted 486K PV viewers and 38.7K AV, ranking fourth and sixth by these metrics, respectively. The game's initial statistics were partially influenced by Twitch Prime Gaming's awards given out for watching broadcasts.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II rounds out the Top 5 new releases of the year on Twitch with nearly 60 million HW in its first month. The shooter was released on October 27, and in just a few hours on its Twitch broadcasts the Drops started. This helped the game to become the leader of the ranking by Average Channels (3.6K) and took second place by Peak Channels (23.5K) At the same time, CoD: MW2 is in sixth place by PV (427.6K viewers), and in fifth place by AV (52.1K).

Pokémon Scarlet/Violet was released on November 18, ranking sixth with over 46.6 million HW in its first month. Its PV number was 315.2K (7th place), and its AV number was 62.1K (4th place). Notably, Pokémon Scarlet/Violet achieved these totals while being a Nintendo Switch exclusive, while most of the other games in the ranking are available on multiple platforms. In addition, Pokémon Scarlet / Violet has become the most pre-ordered game in the series in Japan, and also surpassed FIFA 23 in the UK launch sales chart.

God of War: Ragnarok, released on November 9, ranks seventh with 38.1 million HW. In the first month after release, the game attracted more than 477.2 PV and made it into the Top 5 of the ranking by this metric. At the same time, its AV number was the lowest — only 5.8K people. God of War: Ragnarok was nominated for Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2022, but won in six other categories, including Best Narrative and Best Audio Design.

The fighting game MultiVersus, released on July 19, takes the eighth place in the ranking. In the first month of the release, the game amassed more than 21.9 million HW with the AV number being 21.3K. The Twitch Drops, held on the broadcasts of top streamers, had a great impact on its success. At the same time, the MultiVersus' PV number is the lowest in the ranking — 183.3K viewers.

Dying Light 2: Stay Human was released on February 4 and amassed 20.9 million HW in its first month, taking ninth place in our ranking. The game was actively promoted through in-game item drops on Twitch broadcasts, which helped it attract nearly 400K PV. However, the AV number of Dying Light 2 was 11.3K — only God of War: Ragnarok attracted less.

The Quarry, released on June 10, rounds out the Top 10 most successful releases of 2022 on Twitch. The new interactive movie game by Supermassive Games amassed almost 19.3 million HW in its first month. The Quarry made it into the Top 8 by both Peak Viewers (357K) and Average Viewers (14.5K).
