New games and consistently popular titles replaced each other at the top of Twitch throughout 2020. In January-February, viewers actively followed Escape from Tarkov; in March, Call of Duty: Warzone (streamed in the Modern Warfare category) took over Twitch. Streams Charts analyzed how the most popular Twitch games and categories changed week by week in 2020 and early 2021.
The most interesting spike in statistics was in April when Valorant was released. The shooter occupied the first place in the rating by Hours Watched and stayed there for more than a month: it dropped out of the top 10 only in May. In June, Escape from Tarkov returned to the top 10 (and even overtook Just Chatting for a short time). In July, Ghost of Tsushima, the best game of the year according to players voice vote at The Game Awards, entered the top 10.
Fall Guys came to Twitch in early August, but later than month Among Us came to replace it: the game had become so popular that it even topped the chart for a short time.
The real dominance of Just Chatting began towards the end of 2020. The category started to break away from second most popular category (League of Legends) almost two times by the amount of Hours Watched. Even the most anticipated game of the year Cyberpunk 2077 failed to overtake it.
