Twitch’s live streaming community is constantly finding new releases to skyrocket to the top of the platform’s viewership, at least temporarily, before the hype wears off. The highly triple-AAA title Diablo IV dominated Twitch viewership for a long time in 2023, but other indie games like Only Up! have proven their capability for live streaming trends too.
The hottest trends and newest releases can be tough for streamers and fans to stay on top of, which is why Streams Charts has a new Trending Twitch Games page for all users to explore and find out the fastest-growing titles on the purple platform. Streams Charts PRO users can access more detailed statistics and information for each game, as well as historical data and language filtering.
Utilising this page, we selected some of the most interesting games trending on Twitch through the first week of February. Users can explore the exact top rankings for themselves on the relevant trending page if they wish, this article provides an overview of the most interesting cases which did not receive high watch time gain thanks to a singular highly popular streamer broadcasting the game.
The original Grandblue Fantasy was released in 2014 and is available on iOS, Android, and web browsers. The newest edition to the Granblue franchise, Granblue Fantasy: Relink recently released at the end of January this year. The ARPG from Japan was released with significant support from fans who had waited almost 10 years for a version of the main series on their PlayStations and PCs. In Granblue Fantasy: Relink’s first week of release, it ranked within the top 40 most-watched games on Twitch.
The game did go live slightly earlier in certain regions, so there was some viewership prior to the full global release. Across the first week of February, watch time for the Japanese ARPG grew by 949%, and it garnered a total of over 2.05M Hours Watched. Taiwanese streamer 餐餐自由配 (blusewilly_retry) was the most-watched of all Twitch streamers to cover the game throughout its release week; many other top creators from Asia and the USA covered the game, like fps_shaka and Sykkuno.
Another title which enjoyed early February as one of Twitch’s trending games was the highly popular game Honkai: Star Rail. The Chinese role-playing game recently released its 2.0 update, driving a 147% increase in viewership for the first week of February, and 1.53M Hours Watched in total.
Compared to other multiplayer titles, Honkai: Star Rail features much more fluctuant viewership dynamics than other games. The viewership for the title on Twitch heavily relies on new content and updates to generate watch time. These updates revitalise the game when they arrive, bringing streamers and fans back to the fold. Despite only a week passing in February, 1.53M HW represents over 54% of the total watch time for the game throughout the entire month of January.
If Honkai: Star Rail’s new 2.0 update can secure viewership for the upcoming weeks, the game might enjoy one of its best months for viewership since the last major update.
For Honor is the third game to look at; with a 483% increase compared to the previous week, viewership is quickly on the rise for medieval combat. The beginning of February did see some changes and patches come for the title, but viewership mainly increased thanks to the enabling of Twitch Drops.
Hours Watched for For Honor rose from 73.5K to 428.7K in only one week, marking an Hours Watched Gain of 355.1K compared to the previous period. Many streamers have been taking advantage of the Twitch Drops event, and MrSheepLive is no different. MrSheep was live for over 120 hours throughout the week, and the Swedish streamer contributed more than 30% to the game’s total Twitch watch time for the week.
The Drops for For Honor included a loot box crate, a chance to win in-game items and currency. Although MrSheepLive was singularly significant for For Honurs viewership, many other streamers aiming for Drops-enabled streams with high Airtime joined the fray too. The most-watched streams for the first week of February playing For Honor are representative of this, with a huge wall of stream titles mentioning Drops as the first key word.
Last but not least, Palia is a co-op and MMO game on Twitch, which has been noted by many streamers for its resemblance in gameplay to other popular Japanese titles. The game recently garnered 199.8K Hours Watched for the first week of the month, and if this rate continues it may be able to finally break the 1M HW barrier again.
Although Palia enjoyed a warm welcome to Twitch and was one of its most popular categories at 75.4K Peak Viewers, this viewership quickly declined and eventually disappeared altogether. For August 2023, the release month of Palia, it garnered 4.55M Hours Watched. Since then, only two other months managed to break 1M HW, but maybe the beginning of 2024 will bring some new luck.
Palia enjoyed a resurgence in viewership thanks to the Luna New Year event it released. The update brings new quests, a hotpot minigame and many other avenues for players to explore. According to the Statistics page for Palia, the week of February 4 - 11 was the most-watched week of the year so far for the game on Twitch, and this is before the data for this week is even completed!
