Twitch has added two new chat moderation features. Now, streamers can share their comments on viewer bans with partner channels. In this case, moderators from other channels can better understand the context of the ban and take it into account for future interactions with particular users.
New moderation feature has sparked a wave of discussion on social media. Some have called it very useful and convenient, as other streamers can find out why exactly you banned a particular viewer on your channel. On the other hand, now streamers can preemptively ban viewers just for being banned on another channel (some have even compared this to communism). During the discussions, the issue of unfair bans due to errors or miscommunication was also raised. Users clearly need a mechanism to appeal their own bans.
Another topic for discussion is whether the new moderation feature will work with other innovations that Twitch has introduced or plans to introduce. Recall that Twitch previously announced the development of a mechanism that allows streamers to completely block their broadcast (not just chat) for a specific viewer; the possibility of blocking viewers by IP address is also being explored. If streamers can share such data with each other, it could lead to a series of unjustified bans.
Earlier Twitch added a new tool to the Dashboard to assist streamers in selecting the optimal time for their broadcasts. Now content creators can assess the number of viewers over time for each specific streaming category. In essence, they can determine when broadcasts for particular games attract the most viewers.
