Twitch in March 2025: Record diversity of content

Twitch in March 2025: Record diversity of content
Share:

In March, Twitch experienced mixed dynamics in streamer and viewer activity: content creators were slightly more active on average compared to the final month of winter, while the viewer count was somewhat lower. However, the platform reached a record number of livestreaming categories, indicating the ongoing diversification of the platform's content.

Overall, Twitch maintained a steady performance across all key metrics, with no changes exceeding 9%. The biggest fluctuation was in total watch time, which saw an increase primarily due to March just being three days longer than February

The platform's average concurrent viewership showed a less positive trend: despite the overall growth in total watch time, Twitch had over 100,000 fewer viewers on average at any given five-minute interval in March compared to February.

Streaming categories told a different story: with several highly anticipated video game releases in March and streamers experimenting with content more frequently, the platform recorded over 46,000 unique streaming categories in a single month for the first time.

It's also worth noting that the year-over-year trends remained within typical ranges, with no drastic shifts in key metrics.

The platform's top categories remained remarkably stable, with just one notable shift between two industry giants: Grand Theft Auto V and its roleplay content overtook League of Legends, which was winding down its winter esports season.

The most significant shift in the rankings was Monster Hunter Wilds breaking into the top 10. As a major new release and a strong Game of the Year contender, it outperformed all other February-March launches. R.E.P.O., a trending party game, came close to making the top 10, but by the end of the month, it was narrowly edged out by Marvel Rivals, which saw its most popular esports tournament since launch in March.

Marc “Caedrel” Lamont dominated as the top streamer of the month. The standout esports co-caster of early 2025 was at the top of his game, covering major League of Legends tournaments, including events where his own team, Los Ratones, delivered spectacular performances. In many ways, he was the driving force behind several esports series unexpectedly shattering viewership records.

The rest of the rankings featured familiar names, including Zack “ZackRawrr” (Asmongold), Hasan “HasanAbi” Piker, and Nicholas “Jynxzi” Stewart. Japanese streamer Junichi “kato_junichi0817” Kato once again delivered a stellar performance, joined by German creators Kevin 'Papaplatte' Teller and Elias “EliasN97” Nerlich. The latter saw a major surge in March, fuelled by his broadcasts of the second season of his football media league, Icon League.

Top 10 most popular Twitch channels in March 2025

When it comes to viral content, no one on Twitch in March could rival one of the platform's biggest stars, Ibai 'Ibai' Llanos. The Spanish streamer made a triumphant return after a lengthy break, instantly drawing a massive audience with the reveal of the latest edition of his blockbuster boxing event, La Velada del Año, which continues to break Twitch records.

Kai Cenat and Caedrel also surpassed 300,000 peak concurrent viewers. Cenat rode the hype surrounding Playboi Carti's new album, Music, while Caedrel surged in popularity with his broadcast of the EMEA Masters Winter 2025 final, where his team, Los Ratones, secured the championship.

Among company-owned channels, the official Rainbow 6 channel achieved the highest concurrent viewership, streaming the presentation of Rainbow Six Siege X, the most popular livestreaming event in the history of the game series.

Top Female Twitch streamers in March 2025

In March, Emily “Emiru” Schunk was the top female streamer, outpacing her nearest competitor by nearly 5,000 viewers. The main content for One True King members was gameplay of Monster Hunter Wilds.

Among VTubers, the AI-generated avatar outperformed the one with a real person behind it! Neuro-sama, created by Vedal987, had 3,000 more viewers than ironmouse. However, when factoring in average viewership relative to streaming time in March, ironmouse (along with Rachell “Valkyrae” Hofstetter) delivered the most impressive results: she streamed much longer than the others, yet her average viewership didn’t significantly drop as a result.
