This past weekend, TwitchCon San Diego 2024 was held, attracting popular streamers from the platform and welcoming attendees from all over. These annual events allow content creators to engage with their communities in person, while fans have the chance to get autographs and take part in various seminars and contests.
As is tradition, many attendees streamed live from the event. At TwitchCon Rotterdam 2024, there were around 1,200 live IRL streams, but at TwitchCon San Diego, that number soared to over 3,000. Additionally, the total watch time for these streams tripled, exceeding 6.2 million Hours Watched.
Overall, TwitchCon in the U.S. demonstrated greater popularity compared to its European counterpart. This can be attributed to the enthusiastic participation of the local audience and the presence of several well-known streamers, including ironmouse, Alondrissa, and HasanAbi.
The fall TwitchCon took place in the U.S., resulting in a significantly higher share of English-language streams compared to the event in Rotterdam, with this percentage rising from 72.5% to 96%. There were virtually no streams in other languages this time; only Spanish maintained its summer performance, holding steady at 1.7%.
TwitchCon San Diego displayed a viewing trend similar to that of TwitchCon Rotterdam. The first day of the main event, September 21, was the most popular, generating over 2.4 million HW. The following day experienced a 30% drop in viewing hours, whereas at TwitchCon Rotterdam, the difference between the two comparable days was only 15.5%.
The most popular guest at TwitchCon was HasanAbi, who presented his own show, HasanAbi’s Debatelords. This special event featured head-to-head debates on trending internet topics, with popular creators competing for the title of winner as determined by Hasan and the audience. All proceeds from the event went to charity. Among the participants were Nmplol, Cyr, JasontheWeen, CarolineKwan, and bbnogames. They discussed a variety of entertaining topics, such as determining the GOAT meta on Twitch, advocating for the rights of homeless NPCs in The Sims, and imagining which streamers would make good presidents.
Notably, HasanAbi not only topped the total hours watched but also attracted the largest audience — his debates drew over 61,500 viewers, significantly surpassing other streamers. The second most popular streamer at TwitchCon was Nmplol, who garnered over 45,500 viewers while streaming a trip to the zoo alongside Cinna and ExtraEmily.
As part of TwitchCon San Diego 2024, several Twitch Rivals show tournaments took place. Nearly 63,000 viewers tuned in simultaneously for the MC Championship LIVE, where popular streamers like impulseSV, Tubbo, Shadoune666, and others navigated an obstacle course and faced various challenges in Minecraft.
The Twitch Rivals Ultimate Challenge peaked at over 60,700 viewers. In this event, teams of streamers competed against each other in both physical and video game challenges. Activities included shooting basketballs into hoops, playing matches in Knockout City, diving into a large ball pit to find hidden items, and engaging in tabletop football, where they acted as the players. Ultimately, the victory went to the team JOEYKAOTYK, which included ethos, ysuf7n, and jessica.

San Diego has hosted TwitchCon festivals several times now, consistently demonstrating that American events are more popular than their European counterparts. In 2025, TwitchCon will again take place in both Rotterdam and San Diego, and perhaps this time European viewers will be more engaged.
