WrestleMania 42, one of the biggest sports entertainment events of the year, wrapped up in Las Vegas last weekend. Although free live broadcasts of the spectacle were not available, as it was aired on Netflix, watch parties and additional event-related streams helped it accrue over 1 million watch hours.

What is WWE WrestleMania, and what happened this year?

WWE WrestleMania is the World Wrestling Entertainment's flagship annual event, often culminating year-long stories on the grandest stage of them all. It was held as a single-night, weekend affair until 2021, when its sheer scale and pandemic restrictions combined to convince the company to hold it over two nights, a structure it has followed since.

WrestleMania 42, also promoted as WrestleMania Vegas, was the second event in the series to air on Netflix and had a total of 13 matches. The main event on Saturday saw Cody Rhodes defeat Randy Orton for the Undisputed WWE Championship, while Sunday's headline bout pitted World Heavyweight champion CM Punk against Roman Reigns, with the latter winning the belt for the first time.

We also saw several notable returns. Following her husband CM Punk's first appearance in 12 years in 2025, AJ Lee appeared on the "Showcase of the Immortals" for the first time in 11 years. Fans — who came together for a two-day total attendance of 106,072 — also saw former Divas Champion Paige make her first WWE appearance since 2022 and wrestle in her first match in the company in a little over eight years.

There was also some positive family news that led to one of the biggest pops of the weekend. Former world champion Bianca Belair, out with a finger injury for over a year, came out to announce that she was pregnant, a moment that quickly became one of the most talked-about highlights of the event.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, there was seeming confirmation of a legitimate combat sports and WWE legend retiring. After losing to rising star Oba Femi in a heavyweight clash, a visibly emotional Brock Lesnar removed his boots and gloves and placed them in the middle of the ring, usually a sign that the athlete is calling it quits.

How many streamers covered WrestleMania 42, and what was its viewership like?

Unlike other major annual livestreaming events, WrestleMania Vegas was not officially broadcast for free. Instead, WWE livestreamed countdowns, with themed video series previewing each bout scheduled on the card across both nights, before the event itself went live.

There were also plenty of watch parties that streamed the action live, with the total number of channels coming to over 2,000.

In all, these livestreams accumulated 1,033,672 million Hours Watched (HW), up from 952,161 HW generated at WrestleMania 41. Over an airtime of 14 hours across two days, these broadcasts averaged 73,834 live viewers, with a peak of 170,851 concurrent viewers.

YouTube was the most preferred destination for viewers, contributing to over 68% of the above watch time figures. The red platform's dominance could also be seen in the fact that four of the five most popular channels to cover WrestleMania 42 came from the Google-owned service.

Professional wrestling has long found a stable home on YouTube, where much of its content over the years has been archived for posterity. Moreover, other platforms like Twitch and Kick have a big focus on gaming content, while YouTube's content is a lot more diverse, and this fact was reinforced with Mania's watch parties.

A look at the most popular channels shows that the official WWE was atop the pile, hitting 129,48 Peak Viewers (PV). However, it must be noted that the channel did not stream any matches of the event liveinstead focusing on countdown streams, interviews and post-show segments to drive audience interest.

The above numbers also put the official WWE channel among the ten most popular sports streamers for the weekend of April 18 and 19. Unsurprisingly, this list is led by football-content-based names like ge tv and Casimiro "CazéTV" Miguel.

We also have to mention Darren "IShowSpeed" Watkins Jr., whose in-real-life (IRL) streams from Mania weekend put his Twitch and YouTube channels as the second and third-most popular channels to cover the event. Of course, audience interest was higher in his broadcasts as he was making his WWE in-ring debut by competing in a six-man tag team match.

The YouTube star teamed with Logan Paul and Austin Theory against LA Knight and The Usos in a losing effort. However, it was the post-match shenanigans that became one of the defining moments of this year's WrestleMania, as he hit a frog splash on fellow influencer-turned-wrestler Logan Paul that went viral on social media.

Which wrestlers caused the most buzz on livestreaming chat during WrestleMania 42?

Unsurprisingly, Roman Reigns got the most attention on chat among viewers across platforms like Kick, YouTube and Twitch. The cousin of Hollywood megastar Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has tremendous crossover appeal and has been the face of WWE for a while.

His win over CM Punk in a well-received match to become the world champion yet again had lots of fans talking, and rightly so, peaking at over 6,600 messages. One crucial point that viewers discussed was that Reigns' victory pointed to a return to a more full-time schedule, something he had not done in years after becoming a part-time attraction on his return post a break during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bianca Belair was the next-most discussed WWE superstar, with her pregnancy announcement generating plenty of chatter among viewers. The fact that she has already missed a year of in-ring action before this news means her fans won't get to see her for a while longer, perhaps even until next year's WrestleMania.

Other main eventers across the two nights in Cody Rhodes, CM Punk and Randy Orton rounded out the top five. Their respective performances, and what the future holds for them for the next year, would have been on the minds of fans, with the losses suffered by Punk and Orton especially leading fans to question what is next for the veterans.

Paige was the only other female to appear on the list of most discussed WWE talents over WrestleMania weekend. The British star was a part of over 2,100 messages shared on chat, with an in-ring return and eventual tag title championship triumph marking a successful comeback to the company.

Overall, WrestleMania 42 continued the series' ability to pull in massive audience interest and reinforced its status as a monumental livestreaming event. Despite not being free for broadcasting, it reached almost every corner of the world, generating substantial viewership numbers across global and regional platforms.
