AGDQ 2022 charity marathon: new records and millions of Hours Watched

AGDQ 2022 charity marathon: new records and millions of Hours Watched
Share:

The annual Awesome Games Done Quick charity marathon ended on 16 January. During the marathon speedrunners played a variety of games. The 2022 event managed to raise a record $3,416,729 for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. The first $1 million was raised in just 24 hours, which is another AGDQ 2022 record.

This year, speedrunners did 149 games' speedruns, including a blindfolded Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice walkthrough. The marathon also set several new world records: InsertLogic finished Kena: Bridge of Spirits in 28:35, Jaxler "ran" Pumpkin Jack in 44:18 and ShadowthePast finished Webbed in 17:21.

In total, viewers of the charity marathon generated 14.2 million Hours Watched from December 10 to 16. Awesome Games Done Quick 2022 was watched by 89,1K Average Viewers and reached the Peak Viewers number of 164,9K spectators.

AGDQ 2022 was covered in seven languages. The English-language broadcast of the marathon on the official GamesDoneQuick channel amassed 11.7 million Hours Watched and attracted 128,7K Peak Viewers. The next most popular channels in terms of the event coverage were French LeFrenchRestream, German Germench and Japanese japanese_restream.

Crash Team Racing was the most watched game of the official AGDQ 2022 broadcast with 128,6K Peak Viewers. Second place is taken by Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice — 114K Peak Viewers and the event record holder regarding Average Viewers (109,2K spectators). Halo: Combat Evolved, released in 2001, rounded out the top-3 with 112,17K Peak Viewers.

From 10 to 16 December, the Awesome Games Done Quick 2022 marathon was the most watched event on Twitch. During this period, the GamesDoneQuick channel amassed twice as many Hours Watched as Felix xQc Lengyel, the platform's most popular streamer, had.

Compared with 2021, AGDQ 2022 accumulated 15% fewer Hours Watched, but more than twice as many hours as the similar RTA in Japan Winter 2021 marathon in terms of this metric.

Unfortunately, Awesome Games Done Quick 2022 was once again held in an online format due to COVID-19 restrictions. Despite the drop in views, the marathon managed to break AGDQ 2020's record of $3.1 million and raise 9% more donations. It's great that thanks to events like this, the gaming and streaming community can contribute to saving someone's life.
