The 20th gaming season of Apex Legends named Breakout kicked off last night. The update sparked interest not only from players but also from streamers: popular content creators launched broadcasts on Twitch, YouTube, and other platforms to explore all the new features of the season together with viewers. Streams Charts analyzed how the release of Breakout was met in the streaming community.
In the Breakout update, a new legend enhancement system was introduced, player ratings were reset, the game's performance was improved, and a new combat arena called "Thunderdome" was showcased. EA Games has prepared a slew of innovations for the game's 5th anniversary, which can be explored in more detail on the company's official website.
Activity in the Apex Legends section on Twitch began to rise even before the update was released. On February 12th, the game section garnered just 661.6K Hours Watched, with 28K Average Viewers in the category. The following day, when the Breakout update was released, these metrics doubled — to 1.2M HW time and 52.2K Average Viewers.
Additionally, the number of channels at peak times swiftly increased (from 3.3K to 8.4K). Within a day, Apex Legends climbed from 14th to 10th place in the platform's category rankings. By noon on February 14th, the game held the 4th position, only following Just Chatting, GTA V, and League of Legends.
The most watched Apex Legends streamer on Twitch was TSM_ImperialHall, who launched a 24-hour marathon to celebrate the release of Breakout: by the middle of the broadcast, he managed to gather 28.4K Peak Viewers.
The Breakout release also caused a significant stir in the Japanese segment of YouTube. Several popular VTubers hosted streams on the royal battle, including Lauren Iroas, ShibuyaHAL, and tttcheekyttt. Each of them attracted over 10K Peak Viewers during their Apex Legends broadcasts.

Twitch Drops became a significant incentive for viewers: for every hour of watching a stream from an Apex Legends partner, fans of Apex Legends can receive exclusive holosprays for six different legends. Holosprays will not be given out all at once, but one reward will be distributed every two weeks, and the promotion itself will run from February 13th to May 7th.
Recall that the 19th season of Apex Legends started on October 31st, 2023. On the day of the patch release, the game section on Twitch garnered 1.4M HW, with an average online viewership of 59K. Twitch Drops were also available at the start of the previous season, but at that time, the number of channels in the category was lower than at the start of the 20th season.
