The global streaming community was shocked by news of the tragic passing of Carlos Mauricio Gómez, globally recognized as Komanche, early this week. Authorities have not yet formally established the cause of death, but his manager, Byron Reyes, brought up the fact that Komanche was bullied, having received a lot of online hate.

The 30-year-old Salvadoran content creator and foundational figure in the Spanish-speaking digital space was found dead in his rental home in the Paseo de las Cumbres neighborhood of Monterrey, Mexico, on Sunday, sending shockwaves across the creator economy.

Komanche had previously opened up to fans about struggling with depression, schizophrenia, anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). He even admitted to trying to take his life thrice, and a final post on X just six days before his suspected suicide seemingly pointed to his state of mind.

Komanche went from El Salvador to heart of hispanic streaming

Born in San Sebastián, San Vicente Department, El Salvador, Komanche began his livestreaming journey on Twitch in 2015, navigating early economic and personal hurdles to carve out a space for himself in gaming content. Early on, he specialized in titles like Grand Theft Auto V, Minecraft, and Fortnite, and his charismatic community interactions gradually built a loyal fanbase.

Between 2020 and 2022, his channel experienced a meteoric rise. Komanche relocated to Mexico and bridged connections with major names across the Hispano-American scene — such as Ibai "ibai" Llanos, Rubén "El Rubius" Doblas, and Fernando "Fernanfloo" Alvarado — transforming from a dedicated grinder into one of the most influential community builders in the Spanish-speaking landscape.

Mastermind behind Twitch Rivals Squid Craft Games

Without a doubt, Komanche's crowning professional achievement was his pivotal role in creating and promoting the Squid Craft Games. Teaming up with streaming giants like Raul "AuronPlay" Alvarez and El Rubius, and taking the help of top-quality production studio partners like Twitch Rivals and Eufonia Studio, Komanche helped conceptualize and drive the massive Minecraft survival tournament styled after Netflix's Squid Game.

As a centerpiece of Twitch Rivals, the Twitch Rivals Squid Craft Games ft. Komanche brought together hundreds of content creators for high-stakes, dramatic eliminations. The series has shattered expectations, with the inaugural edition pulling in 2.25 million peak concurrent viewers and cementing itself as a historic milestone for Twitch Rivals.

The collaborative project won critical acclaim, including the ESLAND Award for Best Miniseries in 2023, solidifying Komanche's eye for culture-defining digital entertainment. Beyond Squid Craft, he remained a vital presence in crossover events, collaborating on high-profile productions and cementing deep bonds within the community.

Tributes pour in for Komanche

Many of his colleagues posted tributes soon after the news broke out. Byron Reyes wrote on social media: "On the internet, we ALL think we have the right to point fingers or criticize others without even knowing them or how much those words can affect someone. Fly high, my Komanche."

Auronplay, meanwhile, posted on Instagram that he had spoken to Komanche just four days ago. The Spanish creator said he would miss Komanche a lot and that his absence would leave an emptiness in him, finishing by saying that he loved his friend very much.

Abril "AriGameplays" Alonso also posted an Instagram tribute, saying Komanche was an incredible person. He could be going through your own battles but always found a way to be there for those who needed him. The Mexican influencer complimented him by saying she felt deeply fortunate to have crossed paths with Komanche.
