On September 9, Apple hosted its annual fall keynote to unveil the new iPhone 17 lineup. CEO Tim Cook introduced the latest iPhone and refreshed versions of the company’s headphones and smartwatch. The event was livestreamed on Apple’s official YouTube channel, reaching a peak of over 2.8 million viewers. Still, Streams Charts notes that the numbers fell short of Apple’s records.
Apple’s presentation ran for 1 hour and 10 minutes, during which the company revealed the new AirPods Pro 3 and the latest Apple Watch lineup. The spotlight, of course, was on the three new iPhone 17 models. Alongside the standard version, Apple introduced the ultra-thin iPhone Air and the flagship iPhone 17 Pro. Full details on the technical specs of all the new products are available on Apple’s official website.
The presentation racked up more than 3.5 million hours of watch time in just one hour. Apple’s YouTube stream averaged 2.3 million viewers, with a peak of 2.8 million watching simultaneously during the iPhone 17 reveal. Still, with photos and specs of the new phone having leaked online well in advance, the announcement didn’t generate much buzz among viewers.
This year’s Apple keynote ranked only as the fourth most popular in the company’s history. The fall events in 2020, 2022, and 2024 each drew over 3 million peak viewers, with the record still held by the September 7, 2022 Apple Event, which reached nearly 3.7 million at its peak.
The official broadcast of the September 9 Event ran on Apple’s YouTube channel, while the company actively worked to shut down third-party restreams. Even so, a few major creators like “xQc” and “ohnePixel” managed to host smaller restreams of their own.
Most popular Apple events in livestreaming
Apple continues to dominate when it comes to livestreamed tech presentations. By comparison, Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event in January 2025 drew just 582,000 concurrent viewers.
