Minecraft, Arcane, and raids: most successful cases of followers gain on Twitch over the year

The follower count is one of the main indicators of the popularity of a channel on Twitch and a source of pride for any streamer. Some have been gathering their audience for years, and some manage to get hundreds of thousands of new followers in just a few hours of broadcasting. Streams Charts team collected ten episodes with the largest follower gain in single stream over the past year. Read the article to find out how they did it.

If a streamer is banned and then unbanned, the automatic follower count on Twitch may give an incorrect result. In fact, the system itself refollows to the channel the viewers who were following it before blocking. That is why in the article we did not take into account cases when a streamer had a large increase in followers during the first stream the channel was unbanned (as it is automatically triggered by the platform itself). Hence, sodapoppin and some of the other celebrities that were getting tons of followers after being unbanned were not taken into account.

One of the most popular Twitch streamers from Spain, ibai, took the first spot in the ranking by a single-time increase in followers. In June 2022, during the broadcast of his own boxing event, La Velada Del Año II, 396K people subscribed to his channel in just five hours of broadcast, which accounted for 3.7% of the creator’s total number of followers at the time the record-breaking broadcast ended. The increase may seem insignificant, but don't forget that ibai has over 11.5M followers. He ranks fourth on the platform by this indicator. By the way, it was during La Velada Del Año II that the Twitch Peak Viewers record was set for a standalone channel and the platform as a whole — amounting to 3.3M and 6.6M viewers, respectively.

The second to fourth spots were taken by streamers who participated in the super popular Twitch Rivals Squidcraft Games ft. Komanche (Minecraft) with a prize pool of $100K. It featured all the stars of the Spanish Twitch segment, which not only broadcast the tournament on their channels but also hosted each other's broadcasts. As a result, the female streamer OllieGamerz with a relatively small channel (100-200 Average Viewers) was able to gain 375.6K followers during one broadcast: most of the people followed her after the host from elxokas for 352K viewers. Thanks to the same Minecraft tournament, elxokas himself gained 320.7K new followers in one day. This is about 16.1% of the total number of followers on his channel. Spanish streamer Luzu gained 188K new followers (10% of the total) during the Twitch Rivals Squidcraft Games ft. Komanche. In many ways, he was helped by the host from AriGameplays for 123.3K viewers. It should be noted that Spain has a very friendly Twitch community. Local streamers are actively involved in collaborative shows, and viewers prefer to watch different content creators instead of getting attached to any one star.

The fifth spot is occupied by SypherPK, the first English-language streamer in our ranking. In December 2021, he ran a 48-hour Fortnite marathon, during which he said goodbye to Chapter 2 and welcomed Chapter 3. During the broadcast, 164.6K people subscribed to his channel, which amounted to almost 3.3% of his total number of followers at the time the stream ended. This is a very good example of a case when the marathon is not just long, but also timed to coincide with a popular event — and this combination provided the channel with a rather impressive boost.

The sixth spot was taken by the official English-language channel of Riot Games. Ending there on November 6, 2021, the broadcast of the grand final of the 2021 World Championship for League of Legends between EDward Gaming and DAMWON Gaming, and immediately after that, on the night of November 7, the world premiere of the Arcane animated series took place. During these 2.5 hours, the channel gained 163.6K new followers.

The seventh spot in the ranking was occupied by the channel of Kamet0, one of the most popular French streamers. On April 4, 2022, he, along with the audience, took part in the PixelBattle on Reddit, an event where anyone could draw their own part of a large shard picture live (painting on top of the drawings of other participants along the way). It so happened that Kamet0's broadcast went viral, and other streamers started hosting and raiding his channel. As a result, during the broadcast, Kamet0 gained 154.8K new followers (13% of the total).

The Spanish streamer QuackityToo is ranked eighth. On July 9, he was supposed to take part in the start of the second season of the KARMALAND Minecraft RP server, but due to technical problems, the event was postponed. QuackityToo communicated with the audience for almost 3.5 hours and during this time gained 143.9K new followers, which accounted for approximately 7% of their total number.

The ninth line of the ranking was taken by Zeling, another female streamer from Spain. On October 13, 2021, she broadcasted Squid Games in Roblox during which she was raided by 190K viewers. As a result, her channel gained 139K followers (40.2% of the total) by the end of the broadcast.

Closing the top 10 by largest single-time follower gain is the channel of PGL English broadcast from the PGL Major Stockholm 2021 CS:GO tournament. On the opening day, for 12 hours of broadcasting, the channel gained 127.7K followers (17.5% of the total). The CS:GO fans were so active because they missed a full-fledged LAN tournament: the event became the first major after the start of the coronavirus.

Some other streamers could also have entered the top 10, but we decided not to include them in the ranking due to the likely cheating of bots. This was the situation with Ninja in April 2022, when 476K followers signed up for his channel in just three hours. Moreover, they were added in an extremely even fashion, with 14.7K followers every five minutes. At that time, even Ninja himself admitted that most likely they were bots and someone decided to play a trick on him.

Another controversial situation was centered around the broadcasts of StRoGo, mokrivskyi, and n3koglai. At the beginning of 2022, they were involved in a scandal, when many representatives of the Russian-speaking Twitch accused n3koglai of botting. That whole story contained so many controversial moments that we did not to include these streamers in the ranking.
