Having been introduced to the world by Naver in December, CHZZK's stats were first available to Streams Charts users in February, and with around two months gone, it is time to look at which channels and streamers have made a mark on this still fledgling streaming service as we look ahead to lots of activity over the next nine months of 2024. One thing for sure is that it promises to be an exciting time for neutrals and fans of streaming.
The South Korean platform grew in almost all metrics last month, including a solid 25% rise in watch time and a 24% increase in the average online viewership. Even the drop in peak concurrent viewership was minimal, showing it is slowly but surely finding its footing.
It helps that the content creators are bringing in more viewers, especially those who have moved from Twitch after its closure in the country. The figures for active channels, average channels, and games streamed also went up substantially, with the number of peak channels also seeing an 11% bump.
Compared to its rival, AfreecaTV, some of the figures read pretty well, with the number of games streamed being the obvious differentiator. However, that is a given considering CHZZK was built for gaming streaming while the former delves in all segments.
What will give CHZZK officials motivation is the lead it has built in a metric like active channels, while other verticals like peak channels and average channels are pretty close. Moreover, while the three main counts for AfreecaTV didn't see any monthly rise, two of these marks went up for the former, so it will be intriguing to see if this dynamic continues over the next few months, and how that affects the content creation industry in this East Asian nation.
Most watched CHZZK channels in March 2024
The most-watched streamer last month on this streaming service was 한동숙 (Han Dong-sook), the only one to cross the 3M Hours Watched mark. Only two other names passed the 2M HW mark — 풍월량 (Pungwolryang) and 울프 (wolf), with their content focusing on games like StarCraft: Remastered, Teamfight Tactics: Ink Fable, and League of Legends.
Compared to the most watched AfreecaTV streamers, the top three on CHZZK aren't that far off, with the dynamics also almost being the same. While only the topper on each table crossed 3M HW, only two to three more were able to climb the peak of 2M HW, showing that things are a lot closer between the two despite the latter's status as a new service.
Most popular CHZZK channels in March 2024
When it comes to the most popular channel on this new platform, the leading name was Wolf, followed by Han Dong-sook. The first new name was 따효니 (Tahyoni), who also owns a channel on YouTube and was a Twitch partner. His content mostly revolved around games like Hearthstone and Tekken 8.
While it is still very early in its existence, CHZZK has gotten off to a good start and has already been able to challenge an established rival like AfreecaTV. As more and more streamers join those who had to leave Twitch and find a new home here, there could be a shift in the dynamics of South Korean streaming that sees more creators move to Naver's offering.
