Over the weekend, the finals of such championships as the Worlds 2021 in League of Legends and PGL Stockholm 2021 Major in CS:GO took place, which updated the viewership records for the disciplines. In addition, the platform has introduced a new Arcane category dedicated to the animated series of the same name set in the LoL universe and shown on Netflix. All of them set new records for Peak Viewers and entered the platform’s top 10.
The final match of Worlds 2021 featured the encounter of the Chinese from EDward Gaming and the Koreans from DWG.KIA, the latter being the last year’s world champions. Their encounter was watched by more than 4M viewers, of which 3.08M were on Twitch, which is a new record for a game on the platform. The game took the first spot among the categories in terms of Peak Viewers.
Another record was set by PGL Major Stockholm 2021 – 2.7M viewers have gathered at the final match between Natus Vincere and G2. Of these, over 1.9M followed the match on Twitch. This allowed CS:GO to enter the top 10 categories of the service, ranking fifth.
In addition, following the Worlds finals, Riot Games teamed up with Netflix to present the Arcane animated series based on League of Legends. The new project reveals the lore of the game in a new way and also tells the story of two champions of the title – Jinx and V.
Twitch even created a separate category for streaming the series, which attracted 1.8M viewers on October 7, making it Twitch’s sixth most popular category. The primary means of watching Arcane were the official Riot Games channels, where it was accessible in several languages.
Among the popular streamers, the series has been broadcast by YoDa, TheGrefg, Sardoche, Olsior and hanryang1125. This is not the first time that the platform itself has created a category for an event: the coverage of the E3 2018 exhibition on the platform was done in the same way.
