On the 27th of January, 15 years after its original launch, Electronic Arts released the much-awaited remake of Dead Space, the game that kicked off one of the most historic franchises in the video game industry.
Dead Space is a survival horror game, where players take on the role of engineer Isaac Clarke, who is a crewman in a repair vessel. The story follows Isaac Clarke and his crewmates as they investigate what happened in the USG Ishimura spaceship, while also fighting for their lives. This remake offers players a much more immersive experience, with improved graphics, visual effects, character models, and with the same fantastic story that made millions of players fall in love with the game.
Dead Space viewership stats

The original game was released 15 years ago, so despite being a classic, the title wasn't being played or streamed as much nowadays. In the past three years, viewers watched multiple creators broadcast the historic game for 5.6 million Hours Watched, which is a decent number. If we take a look at the numbers from the past year before the launch of its remake version, we can see that viewers watched Dead Space streams for 2.1 million hours.
However, four days after the remake had been released, the title was among the most popular games on the platform. Viewers were very excited to see how this classic game would look with improved graphics and visual effects, with Dead Space having an amazing 7.3 million Hours Watched, just four days after being released. This number is even more impressive when compared to the amount of time viewers had spent watching the game in previous years. In just four days, the remake version had more HW than the original game did in the past three years combined.
Dead Space viewership skyrocketed with the release of its remake, going from 8.6K PV achieved in the first 26 days of January, to a staggering 265K PV in the four days after the game came out. Meaning the game PV increased by an astounding 2978%. The title's average viewership also increased by an (to say the least) impressive 22152%. Another metric that saw a huge increase was the Peack Channels, with Dead Space going from 84 PC playing the game, to 3.2K simultaneous creators broadcasting it. This further proves that Dead Space was one of the most anticipated releases of 2023, and that viewers have really enjoyed watching the game.
The majority of creators that streamed the game were English-speaking, with Twitch stars such as variety streamer Lirik, Moonmoon, political commentator HasanAbi, and CohhCarnage, playing the game for multiple hours. The English language made up 53% of the game HW, with Korean and Russian completing the podium. Portuguese is also among the top languages, mostly because of Brazilian Twitch stars alanzoka and Cellbit. Worth noting that, HasanAbi reached 30K Peak Viewers while streaming the game, the most of any creators in the first four days.
When we compare Dead Space to The Callisto Protocol, which is also a survival horror game that takes place in space, and was directed by Dead Space co-creator Glen Schofield, we can see that The Callisto Protocol was able to reach a wider audience on its release day. However, Dead Space was able to attract much more viewers in the remaining days, with the 2.7 million Hours Watched achieved on day two, being the highest the game was able to reach in a single day.
Worth noting that, despite The Callisto Protocol being one of the most anticipated games of 2022, and considered by many the spiritual successor to Dead Space, it received some mixed reviews. Some viewers didn't think the game lived up to its hype, which is one of the reasons for the massive viewership decline from day two to day three the game experienced.
It’s clear that even after 15 years, Dead Space has a huge fan base, and can reach a worldwide audience. Viewers were very excited about the remake, and so far the game has received amazing reviews from both players and critics. Dead Space remake has been a huge success, and maybe this will be able to revive one of the most historic video game franchises ever.
