EWC 2026 CS2 showcased Counter-Strike’s global audience across 34 languages

EWC 2026 CS2 showcased Counter-Strike’s global audience across 34 languages

Esports World Cup 2026 brought together an unusually diverse Counter-Strike audience. More than one million viewers watched the tournament at peak, while its coverage spanned 34 languages — even more than the record-setting IEM Cologne Major 2026 — and reached viewers across several major streaming platforms.

This report is presented in partnership with Stake, whose dedicated Counter-Strike section covers markets around major CS2 competitions. Streams Charts takes a closer look at how EWC 2026’s audience was divided across languages, platforms and some of Counter-Strike’s largest regional communities.

More than two-thirds of watch time came from non-English broadcasts

English remained the tournament’s leading language, but accounted for only 31.6% of total Hours Watched. In other words, more than two-thirds of all watch time came from broadcasts in other languages.

Russian alone generated 26.1% of the total, while Portuguese contributed another 14.7%. Combined, the two accounted for 40.8% of Hours Watched, considerably more than English on its own. Spanish, French, Vietnamese, Turkish, Ukrainian, Polish, Mongolian and numerous smaller broadcasts completed a remarkably broad language mix.

With 34 languages represented and no single one accounting for even a third of total watch time, EWC 2026 offered a particularly clear illustration of Counter-Strike as a genuinely global spectator esport.

Kick emerged as a meaningful third platform

The audience was similarly spread across streaming services. Twitch remained No. 1 with 50.5% of Hours Watched, while YouTube accounted for another 38.5%.

More notable was Kick’s 9.3% share. It remains well behind the two dominant platforms, but capturing almost one in ten hours watched at an event of this scale suggests that Kick is increasingly settling into a meaningful third-place role in Counter-Strike distribution rather than functioning as a marginal alternative.

Regional creators challenged the main English broadcast

The channel rankings make the tournament’s audience structure even clearer. Brazilian creator Alexandre "Gaules" Borba led all channels by Peak Viewers, reaching almost 134K concurrent viewers and finishing ahead of ESL Counter-Strike’s main English broadcast. Russian streamer Maksim "shadowkekw" Pavlov ranked third.

Regional personalities were similarly prominent by Hours Watched. Alongside Gaules and shadowkekw, the leaders included Leonid "chopper" Vishnyakov, the former Team Spirit captain who has increasingly established himself in streaming and tournament coverage since stepping away from active competition.

That combination makes the EWC 2026 result more interesting than the million-viewer milestone alone. English was the largest language without dominating the audience, Twitch remained the largest platform without monopolizing viewing, and the event’s biggest individual channel came from the Brazilian community rather than the main international feed.

In that sense, EWC 2026 looked more like a network of regional Counter-Strike audiences converging on the same tournament, perhaps one of the clearest demonstrations yet of how decentralized the game’s global viewership has become.
