The Game Awards is one of the most important events in the video game industry since it rewards the best games, teams, events, and players of the past year. Every year people count the days until the nominees of the Game Awards are announced, and this year it was no different. On the 14th of November, fans finally got to know all the nominees of the many categories at the event, as they were announced in a live stream that lasted a little over 10 minutes.
As expected, God of War: Ragnarök and Elden Ring were nominated to all the main video game categories, and are the favorites to win every award they are nominated for. Apex Legends and Fortnite were also nominated for many awards and are the favorites in some of them. When it comes to the best content creator award, the power couple of QTCinderella and Ludwig are both nominated and are joined by Karl Jacobs, Nibellion, and Brazilian megastar Nobru.
The most nominated titles at the Game Awards
There were also some interesting surprises in the nominees for some of the categories. TI which is one of the biggest and most popular esports events of the year was not nominated for the best esports event of 2022. With Evo Championship Series, League of Legends Worlds 2022, PGL Major Antwerp, MSI, and Valorant Champions being the nominees for the award.
The nominees for the best esports team of the year also generated some debates, since DRX who won Worlds 2022 was not among the nominees. Regarding the best esports games, Riot Games and Valve have each two titles nominated. League of Legends and Valorant are the nominees on the side of Riot Games, with Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Dota 2 being the nominees from Valve. Rocket League is the last nominee in the category.
The Game Awards broadcast was watched for 10.2K hours, with 30.1K Peak Viewers coming together to see if their favorite game, esports event, player, or content creator, was nominated for any award. It also had 13.6K Average Viewers. This live stream was broadcasted on multiple platforms, with YouTube being the most popular one, has it reached a peak viewership of 19.4K. Twitch had 10.2K Peak Viewers, while Facebook was far behind both streaming platforms with just 574 PV.
Fans will have to wait until the 8th of December to know the winners of each category. Last year the event had 2.1 million Peak Viewers, 1.9 million Average Viewers, and fans watched the event for 6.7 million hours. The 2021 edition was a huge success, especially when it comes to viewership, and it’s expected that this year it will be no different. It will be a very interesting Game Awards edition since we have two main candidates in God of War Ragnarök and Elden Ring for all the related video games awards. However, in the other awards, it seems like any game, player, or esports event can win so it will be interesting to see who comes out on top.
