Ibai partnered with FIBA to host a basketball tournament with popular streamers — how many viewers the event attracted?

Twitch megastar Ibai joined forces with FIBA to organize the first ever FIBA 3x3 Streamers Cup 2022. The tournament brought together some of the biggest Spanish content creators, and some ex-basketball players.

The rules of FIBA 3x3 Streamers Cup 2022 were simple. You play on half the field, a made shot inside the perimeter was worth 1 point, while a converted shot outside of the perimeter was worth 2. The team that gets to 21 points first or is ahead at the 10-minute mark wins the game. If the game is still tied after 10 minutes, then the first team to score in overtime wins it.

The event had eight teams, with two of them being esports organizations, Team Heretics, and KOI (the esports organization that ibai is the founder of). The remaining teams were, Drafteados, Los Rupas, Mari Ángeles Lakers, McQuack, Detonadores, and Los Galácticos. As for famous pros, among the participants were the street basketball and 3v3 player Ari Geli was part of Los Galácticos, while Atiga who is also a FIBA player was a member of Los Rupas.

In the final of the event, we had a very familiar match, with KOI facing Team Heretics, a match that has happened many times thought this year in multiple esports disciplines, this time took place on the basketball camp. This year’s tradition continued with Team Heretics, once again, defeating KOI 12:10, and the players won four tickets to the FIBA 3v3 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Viewership Stats

The event was broadcasted on ibai channel and gathered some good viewership numbers. The broadcast was live for 3 hours, and the viewers watched it for 479K hours. With 147K Average Viewers, that spent on average 51 minutes in the stream. The FIBA 3x3 Sstreamers Cup 2022 had 193K simultaneous viewers, and 563K Unique Viewers tuned into the stream to watch Spanish streaming stars play basketball. The event also had 1.7 million live views, showing clearly that a lot of viewers were interested in it.

While the event was on, 13.9K Active Chatters were commenting about everything that was going on. From great shots, and spectacular passes, to some questionable plays. As is normal in sports games, viewers were also complaining about some calls the referees made, or in most cases the ones they didn't.

Curiously the most watched match wasn't the grand final between KOI and Team Heretics, but the semifinal game between Team Heretics and Mari Ángeles Lakers, who had 188K Peak Viewers. Koi was on three of the five most-watched games of the tournament, while Team Heretics was on two.

The event was a huge success in terms of viewership, and all the participants also enjoined the competitive atmosphere the FIBA 3x3 Streamers Cup 2022 had. With viewership numbers like this, we can expect more collaboration between ibai and FIBA, which will bring us some very exciting games, and funny moments.
