Popular American YouTuber IShowSpeed recently set a new personal record for live-stream viewership. His latest broadcast from Thailand drew over 614 578 simultaneous viewers. However, the result is somewhat suspicious due to an unusual spike in viewers that occurred over a very short period — an atypical pattern for live streams.
IShowSpeed has recently launched a series of IRL-streams documenting his travels across Asia. His first destination was Thailand, where he immersed himself in the local culture. He rode elephants, visited a zoo with tigers, participated in a log wrestling match, tasted local cuisine, and explored souvenir shops. Throughout his journey, he was surrounded by a large group of fans, frequently taking photos with them and signing autographs.
During his broadcast on September 10, IShowSpeed was astonished to discover he had set a new peak viewership record for his channel. It came as a surprise to him: “In Thailand though! Bro, what? Nah, this is my most viewed live stream! Y’all, this is crazy,” he exclaimed during the stream.
The result was quite surprising. In just ten minutes, the viewership on IShowSpeed’s stream surged from 202K to a record-breaking 614.5K. Ten minutes later, the numbers fell back to their original level, dipping below 200K. While such dramatic fluctuations are common on Twitch due to raids boosting peak viewership, IShowSpeed was streaming on YouTube, where such patterns are less typical.
Despite the viewership anomaly, IShowSpeed's fans largely ignored the unusual statistics. They celebrated his new record and continued to voice their frustration that he didn’t win the Best Streamer award at the Esports Awards 2024.
For context, IShowSpeed's previous peak viewership record was set in October 2023 during his stream from the Ballon d'Or ceremony, which attracted more than 548.3K viewers at its peak.
