Twitch is arguably the biggest platform for streamers to broadcast their content, and perhaps the largest in terms of active viewers and users. There is a reason most popular content creators do their thing on this platform, and anyone with good content and the requisite talent is bound to rise to the top.
A few popular metrics useful in gauging how much a streamer has grown on Twitch is the number of subscribers, peak viewers, hours watched, and average viewers. Another important aspect to gauge their popularity, and perhaps the one that is most discussed today, is followers.
If a viewer is following someone, it means they are showing their support to that creator for reasons that could include liking their content, similar likes and dislikes, and the level of interaction between the two. Also, they have the option to get notifications when that online personality goes live.
Recently, one of the fastest-growing Twitch streamers, juansguarnizo, touched the much-vaunted 10-million-plus followers' milestone, becoming just the ninth person to do so. It has been quite the journey for the internet star, who created his channel in April 2016.
JuansGuarnizo and his streaming journey
JuansGuarnizo, real name Juan Sebastián Guarnizo Algarra, is a Colombian streamer who was born in January 11, 1997. The Twitch star has been streaming regularly since 2018, and he recently hit the impressive milestone of 10 million followers on the Amazon-owned company, joining the likes of platform megastars like Ninja, Tfue, xQc, and shroud. He is also the first Latin American to reach 10,000 subscribers on the site.
The 26-year-old is also pretty active on YouTube, where he has 6.19M subscribers, and has released a few songs as part of his budding rapping career, the most popular of which is RATIO. It has over 15 million views and is his most-watched video on the channel.
JuansGuarnizo is also a graphic designer who shares his art on Twitch and YouTube, and that was what initially made him famous on these platforms. He stays in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico, along with his wife and fellow streamer AriGameplays (another streamer in the top ten of the most followed Spanish-speaking creators), and he has also made and shared a lot of videos on his handles.
The Ibagué native has also written three books, one of which was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature, and he is currently working on a fourth read. As per one of his YouTube channels, he has participated in several Call of Duty championships under the name KillerMaster45.
In terms of streaming, JuansGuarnizo dabbles in numerous games, especially Minecraft and GTA V. He is also quite popular in the Just Chatting category, which was his second most successful genre in 2022, sandwiched between the two titles mentioned above.
The Latin American started slowly in the streaming sphere, mostly sharing his art, videos, and vlogs with fans. There were also the songs and books that he was busy with, which were pretty successful ventures in themselves, but once he began streaming games, especially on Twitch, things reached an entirely new level.
juansGuarnizo soon became the most subscribed-to Latin American on the site, and that led him to join the esports organization KOI. It is owned by another famous content creator, Ibai “Ibai” Llanos, the fourth most-followed streamer on Twitch (12.55 million). Juan was unveiled by Ibai and Gerard Pique as part of KOI’s team of 12 content creators in late 2021, where he has been ever since.
juansGuarnizo adds to Latin American dominance of most-followed Twitch stars list
Interestingly, five out of the nine content creators with more than 10 million followers on Twitch are Hispanic. It shows the dominance of that market in the streaming industry and the opportunities for talented personalities like juansGuarnizo and Ibai to make a mark.
Among these nine streamers, Juan is probably the least-known name, but that does not mean he doesn’t merit a place on the list. He has grown steadily over the years, but that has only accelerated during and after the pandemic era, where he has seen his stocks rise swiftly.
He was the channel with the third-most followers gained last year, at 3.38 million, behind only sodapoppin (5.64) and ElSpreen (3.97). This was the third-highest rise in percentage gain for followers in 2022. juansGuarnizo has also remained in the top ten on this list for 2023, having got 442K followers so far to be placed eighth on the list.
Over the last 30 days, among games, Juan has been streaming Minecraft and Hogwarts Legacy the most, with Just Chatting continuing to remain his preferred genre. As a leading Hispanic streamer who continues to fly the flag for that community across the world, he will look to continue this rise alongside the likes of Ibai, auronplay, and Rubius.
