In April 2022, the streaming platform NimoTV limited broadcasting in many countries, including such major ones as Brazil, Indonesia, and Thailand. Streams Charts has calculated how the platform's audience reach has changed a year later. Many channels and categories lost more than half of their viewers, but there were also those that showed significant growth.
In the spring of 2022, the Chinese government imposed a limit on the length of broadcasts for underage viewers. Amid this situation, Tencent Corporation reduced funding for its subsidiary company Hyua and its streaming service NimoTV. As a result, the NimoTV platform stopped broadcasting in 14 countries. Brazil, with about 60% of the platform's audience (as of 2020), was also affected by the cuts.
How NimoTV's Performance Changed Over the Year
Between April 2022 and April 2023, the NimoTV platform accumulated 2.1 billion Hours Watched — a 62% decrease from the same period before regional restrictions were introduced. The daily Average Viewers number of the service decreased by 73%, and the Average Viewers number of channels fell by 74%.
The only metric that increased was the Peak Viewers number. During this period, it reached 3.7 million. This happened during the Nimo TV Global Gala 2023, where the platform executives presented awards to the top streamers and spoke about the service's plans for the markets of China and Southeast Asia. The event was held on April 8 at the White Palace in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The broadcast of the ceremony drew more than 3 million Peak Viewers, which has become an all-time record for NimoTV.
It is important to note that this result was more of an exception to the rule. The second most popular broadcast of the year reached only 630K Peak Viewers, which also happened during the Nimo TV Global Gala 2023 streaming ceremony. MixiGaming, which reached over 455.6K PV, is in third place.
Grand Theft Auto V remained NimoTV's most popular category. However, its total Hours Watched number on the platform decreased by 66.5% from the same period a year earlier. The same metric for Garena Free Fire dropped almost 73%, and PUBG Mobile dropped 88.4%. However, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang suffered the most — after NimoTV closed the official broadcast of MPL matches, the total Hours Watched number of the game on the platform decreased by 94%.
On the other hand, the League of Legends category on NimoTV increased by 50.7% last year. A great contribution here was made by the activity of Vietnamese esports players. Some members of the regional VCS league regularly broadcast on the platform.
After the introduction of restrictions in different countries, there were several changes in the Top of Nimo TV channels. เงาะEdwin, NINJO and CGGG, popular GTA V streamers from Thailand, left the Top 10. Barış G, a PUBG Mobile streamer from Turkey, also left the ranking. The MPL ID channel also dropped out of the Top as soon as it stopped covering the MPL Indonesia Mobile Legends tournament matches. After all these changes, the current NimoTV ranking looks more homogeneous — now the entire Top 10 is occupied almost entirely by streamers from Vietnam.
MixGaming became the most popular channel on NimoTV in the last year, with regular GTA V broadcasts. After the partial shutdown of the platform, he still managed to accumulate more than 184 million HW, a 16% drop from the year before. The drop was far lower than some of the other channels in the Top 10.
Thầy Giáo Ba, the most popular League of Legends channel on the platform, takes second place. Over the past year, he increased his total Hours Watched by 134%. Largely thanks to Thầy Giáo Ba, the game section is showing such rapid growth. We should also mention the SBTC Kit channel, which is also dedicated to League of Legends and also showed growth in Hours Watched over the last year.
It should be noted that seven of the Top 10 channels are dedicated to GTA V broadcasts. Of these, only the WASSIMOS channel showed growth over the past year.
Despite the shutdown in some countries, NimoTV is still a popular platform in Southeast Asia and North Africa, especially in Vietnam, Morocco and Tunisia. Over the past year, the platform significantly reduced the number of viewers, but user preferences did not change much — the main games on NimoTV are still GTA V and League of Legends. The latter is even gaining more and more popularity thanks to broadcasts from Vietnamese esports players.
