The developers of the Opera GX gaming browser have created a VTuber mascot GX_Aura. She makes live streams on Twitch, interacting with viewers and playing games.
Initially Aura was a mascot on Opera GX Discord community, where she quickly gaining popularity among users. GX_Aura debuted as a VTuber on August 19th, along with her cover of the song "KICKBACK" by Kenshi Yonezu. Based on this video, GX_Aura has a cheerful personality, enjoys singing and playing games, although she wouldn't be considered a professional esports player. The Opera GX VTuber comes across as silly and naive, but incredibly endearing.
GX_Aura's debut Twitch stream lasted only 55 minutes and has over 73.8K Peak Viewers. Currently, it's the second most popular stream among female VTubers on the platform, but there was a little trick. The GX_Aura broadcast was built into Opera GX and started automatically when the browser was opened. That’s why the first GX_Aura broadcast attracted so many viewers. Her following broadcasts were less popular.
Among the games, GX_Aura has only tried Euro Truck Simulator 2 so far. It's anticipated that over time, she will transition away from her mascot role and develop as an independent media project. Presently, GX_Aura has her own pages on Twitter, YouTube, and TikTok, where she announces her live streams, shares videos, and engages with fans.
VTubers aren't exactly a new trend in streaming, but they have been gaining increasing popularity in the industry recently. There are a lot more VTubers on YouTube than on Twitch — thanks to the Japanese creators, which are very popular there. As for Twitch, there are a large number of VTubers from South Korea, but the most popular is the American Ironmouse — her channel scored 11.5 million hours watched in the H1 2023.
