The Queens League 2023, the inaugural edition of the female version of the highly successful Kings League, saw its regular season conclude on July 15. It has become the most-watched women’s event of all time, marking a successful entry for the league into the ecosystem.
The competition, based on the same rules and format used for the Kings League 2023 Split 2, has 12 teams in action. At the end of the regular season, it was ibai’s Porcinos FC who advanced to the playoff semifinals, while Ultimate Mostoles, El Barrio, and Rayo de Barcelona made the playoff second round. These three teams will battle three more sides who advance from the playoff first round, with Kunitas and 1K FC out of the tournament altogether.
Viewership stats from the Queens League 2023 regular season
This unique football competition notched 323K Peak Viewers during the Week 2 clash between Porcinos FC and Jijantas FC, which the former won 3-1. Of course, with the match being a clash between the teams owned by two of the biggest Twitch stars in Spain — ibai and Gerard Romero — it was bound to attract a sizeable audience, which it duly did.
It also hit 9.7M Hours watched and 135K Average Viewers over an airtime of 72 hours. There are also other celebrity owners, including content creators, like Mayichi, Espe, Adri Contreras, rivers_gg, Gemita, Spursito, TheGrefg, Noe9977, xBuyer, and MiniBuyer, with many of them also owning sides in the male's league and helping bring in thousands of viewers and fans.
Twitch, the most popular site for catching the best streamers in action in most of Europe, was also the most preferred platform here, notching almost 70% of the overall hours watched during the regular season. This is in keeping with the trends in the male side of things, where the purple platform took up similar shares over the first two splits.
YouTube and TikTok were the other contributors, with DjMaRiiO and xBuyer contributing majorly to the numbers of the red platform. The former, especially, is a massive name on the site and has legitimate claims to being the biggest Spanish YouTuber today.
Speaking of content creators, the most popular individual channel from the regular season of the Queen League 2023 was rivers_gg, who narrowly edged fellow platform megastar ibai by 4.3%. She was also the most watched streamer with 457K HW, easily beating out the next best name, who again happened to be the co-owner of Porcinos FC.
It’s quite commendable that the Mexican streamer beat her much more vaunted peer in this metric, as ibai has been leading the charts across the two male splits and consistently draws millions to his broadcasts. However, with her growing stature as a leading Hispanic content creator and someone who commands a loyal fanbase, these stats should not be all that surprising.
That a TikTok handle was the third-most watched so far speaks volumes of the video-sharing app’s growth in this medium. However, it was the only account airing the matches on this platform, so it remains to be seen where it goes in future iterations of the male and female tournaments.
The Queens League 2023 regular season has become the most-watched women’s live-streaming tournament ever, beating another competition that raised the mark this year, the 32nd SEA Games recap — MLBB. With the playoffs promising nine more matches, there is a chance for it to improve on these numbers and also climb up the popularity charts.
Speaking of popularity, this event is now the third highest ever in terms of peak concurrent viewers, behind the abovementioned tournament and the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Women’s Invitational. With the sides owned by many of the most preferred streamers still in with a chance of being the debut edition’s champions, there’s a chance it climbs up the table come the end of the competition.
When comparing the regular seasons of the Kings League 2023 Split 2 and Queens League 2023, it is clear that the former is much more popular and watched. However, considering it’s the inaugural edition for the latter and that it has not been able to call upon the biggest ex-football stars globally like its male counterpart, these numbers are pretty commendable and will only get better with more editions.
Like the simultaneously running men’s event, the playoffs will start on July 23 with the playoffs first round, where PIO FC faces Saiyans FC, Aniquiladoras FC takes on xBuyer Team, and Las Troncas FC battles Jijantas FC. Rayo de Barcelona, Ultimate Mostoles, and El Barrio, respectively, await the winners in the playoffs second round, with these matches happening at the Cupra Arena in Barcelona. The semifinals and final, both occurring on July 29, will take place at the Wanda Metropolitano, the home of La Liga giant Atletico Madrid.
