The results of Trovo in 2020: How successful was the launch?

The results of Trovo in 2020: How successful was the launch?
Share:

Trovo is a new streaming platform from Tencent, which was launched almost simultaneously with the closure of Mixer. Based on the results of the first six months of the platform (July-December), we will tell you how successful Trovo's start was and what content and streamers are popular on it.

Was the Trovo launch successful?

Trovo reached 29.4M hours watched between July and December. The most successful month for the platform was August when hours watched increased by 51.2% compared to June. There is no point in drawing parallels between Trovo and Twitch, considering the "age" of both platforms, but the comparison with Mixer is worth it.

During 2020 Mixer grew slightly, but at the end of its “life” the dynamics worsened. The decline in June was 24.7%, and with the announcement of the closure in July, it was as much as 81%. The reason is that the closure was announced in advance, and most streamers did not wait for the platform to close completely but immediately went to competitors.

At the same time that Mixer closes, a beta version of Trovo appears. Now the platform could not boast of a huge number of HW, but it is the only streaming platform from the reviewed ones that has only been growing for six months. Trovo's December results have already overtaken Mixer's closure, and if this 30-50% increase continues, the platform will achieve the Mixer's level in early 2020.

Trovo's viewers — who are they and what are they watching?

We calculated who contributed the most hours watched to Trovo in 2020. The leaders were English-speaking viewers — 34.7%. The second was Spanish-speaking audience with 28.7%. It is worth noting that the third and fourth places were taken by Serbian and Serbian-Croatian languages, which usually do not occupy high positions in rankings.

The most popular category on Trovo in 2020 was Call of Duty: Mobile — 5M HW. Mobile battles are watched by an average of 1.1K people, which is the highest figure among the platform categories. At the same time, the game was not very successful on Twitch — 6.5M HW.

Initially, it was announced that Trovo would focus on mobile gaming, but there were few such games in the top. Grand Theft Auto V took the second position with 3.7M hours watched and the biggest number of peak viewers — 11K people. In addition to Call of Duty: Mobile, only PUBG Mobile was included in the top 10 mobile disciplines. Indirectly, Among Us and Fortnite, which can be played with both PC and mobile devices, can also be added.

If you compare the Trovo's ranking of the most popular categories to Twitch's one, you will see that ChitChat is not so popular on Trovo: it takes only 16th place in the ranking, while on Twitch Just Chatting took the first place at the end of 2020.

Another difference is that mobile games were not included in the top 10 on Twitch at all, and Dota 2 on Trovo is more popular than CS:GO, although the discipline goes through difficult times. In general, the top categories on Trovo are significantly different from Twitch's ones.

The most popular Trovo streamers

The most hours watched in the second half of 2020 were gained by the Serbian streamer GUHSAJAN394K for 622 hours of broadcast. Interestingly, the peak category of four streamers from the top 5 is GTA V. Only Call of Duty: Mobile made it to the top thanks to PARKA, as he professionally plays the game and devotes all his time to it. He also streamed the longest from our top — 793 hours in 2020.

The most popular broadcast on Trovo was held by ItsOnlySkillz, one of his streams attracted almost 6K peak viewers during the GTA RP broadcast. Impe and Krsko13 had their best PV broadcasting Minecraft (4.6 and 4.3K viewers), and stefyesca set a personal record in Among Us — 4.4K PV.

It is also worth mentioning that on Trovo, you can see esports broadcasts of PUBG Mobile and League of Legends, including World Championship, as well as other disciplines. The platform is rapidly developing in this direction, given that Trovo recently became an official partner of LEC within broadcasts.

A more detailed conclusion about the growth of the platform can be made in the next quarter, but according to the results of January 2021, Trovo's HW increased by 50% compared to December 2020, which means that the platform has not reached its peak yet.
