Reddit's r/place, a collaborative project where all users can slowly add to a canvas — one pixel at a time — has seen a fiery start. This year is its third iteration, and various streamers from across the world have come together to gather their communities and make this spectacle bigger than ever.
Having launched on July 20, in three days of being live, the canvas has advanced quite a lot, with many content creators in on the action and streaming happenings as and when they occur. Many names who led the charge on the first day continued to do so across the next two days, with other peers joining them in creating the best version possible of this pixel dream.

Rubius, the leading streamer by most concurrent viewers on the day of release, continued to lead the chart while streaming the event. The Spaniard had 75K Peak viewers while streaming the work being done on the in-progress canvas.
Papaplatte was second again with 71K concurrent viewers on r/place, which is no surprise given Germany has one of the largest communities on the canvas historically. Once again, with its organization and skill, the group created a German flag that covers the width of the entire canvas.
Rounding off the podium was Cellbit, whose community also came up with perhaps the best artwork on the canvas so far. While enjoying 51K PV, the Brazilian streamer was able to rally his troops and create an awesome representation of the Imaginary Friend, also called Amigo Imaginário, from O Segredo na ilha, translated to The Secret on the Island, the first spin-off campaign in the Paranormal Order series, created by the above online personality himself.
Argentina Twitch megastar ElSpreen was the fourth most popular r/place broadcaster, having joined the party a little late. He was followed by xQc, who now splits his time on the purple platform with Kick but continues to attract millions and will look to continue the shenanigans that made him a must-see, not for all the positive reasons, during the canvas' 2022 run.
Locklear, fourth on the first day, had to settle for a pedestrian sixth on the rankings for the first three days. IlloJuan and auronplay, two more highly famous Spanish content creators, were in the next two spots, and it remains to be seen how they can influence the happenings over the next few days.
stegi was ninth, as his interest in the canvas and streams have also helped him jump higher than usual on the Hours Watched table. Last was GRONKH, another German content creator who will no doubt be in touch with peers from his country to ensure they have another successful time in 2023.
What has happened over the weekend on r/place?
Apart from the superb work of Cellbit's community, there was a budding feud building between Morocco and Colombia. After some users added the line — Attack Colombia — inside the African country’s space, one user commented:
“Bro WTF is wrong with Morocco? What did Colombia do? That's pure hate right there.”
There was also amusement among netizens after Canadian users finally got their flag right on the canvas, also adding the beaver holding an ice hockey stick. This came after those in this space faced a lot of trolling in the form of their work (flag) getting destroyed by either miscreants or bots, so getting rid of these pesky hindrances to get their work up finally filled most with joy.
Among the various murals created by the online community was the iconic logo of Counter-Strike, Lionel Messi’s bodywork with the FIFA World Cup trophy nearby, and a drawing of Jett with a tribute to Twisten — the recently-deceased former teen Valorant pro — and Tarik.
Quackity’s QSMP moderators also found a space for themselves, and so too did hololive, while Germans were able to again plaster multiple flags of their country across the canvas. However, as seen with Canada’s issue, a lot of countries’ flags have been facing challenges from other users, with France and Germany at it once again, so it remains to be seen which nation’s online community is able to protect their flags the most.
