The fourth Trust in Rust show tournament was held on January 15-22, featuring popular streamers from the Rust community, as well as many variety streamers. During the event, the organizers encouraged streamers to send donations to charity, and viewers received exclusive drops for watching the game on Twitch. The Streams Charts team has noticed that the Twitch audience of the game increased several times after the start of the tournament.
What is Trust in Rust?
The goal of the fourth Trust in Rust show tournament was to raise $100K for Rise Above The Disorder, a non-profit organization that helps mentally challenged people in need to get the mental health care they need. One could support the campaign by donating directly or by watching the broadcast of hJune (or other participants), who was the host of the event. Viewers were given drops with exclusive weapon skins, as well as accessories and cosmetic items as part of these broadcasts.
The format of the event was quite simple: each team built its own base and tried to protect it from the attacks of their rivals. Points could be earned for successful raids, eliminating enemies, controlling points, etc. Each match had restrictions on the use of certain weapons, as well as the construction of fortifications on the base. Among the participants of the event were such popular streamers as MarkPlayz, handongsuk and CoconutB, and event former professional CS:GO players Dosia and Maikelele.
How Did the Rust Audience on Twitch Increase Over the Event?
Trust in Rust 4 had a big impact on the number of viewers in the game's Twitch section. This growth was far from the record numbers of January 2021, but still quite significant when looking at the entire 2022.
In December 2022, the Peak Viewers number of the category was 45.3K viewers, whereas it almost quadrupled to 172.3K in January 2023. Comparing the same months, the Peak Channels number increased from 957 to 1.2K, the best result since June 2022.
Comparing the days in detail, the difference looks more significant. The Peak Viewers number on January 14 was 20.7K, and the next day, when the Trust in Rust event began, this metric increased by as much as 8.5 times.
Most Popular Rust Streamers During the Event
A channel of the Canadian-Korean streamer hJune, who was the host and one of the organizers of the Trust in Rust series, became the most popular Rust channel during the event. He broadcast for over 156 hours between January 15 and 22 and racked up 4.3 million HW in that time. An Average Viewers number during this period was 28.3K, and the PV number was over 100K (a personal record for hJune). By the way, other streamers gave away six cosmetic items in their regular drops, and hJune had two more exclusive skins — hJune Cracked Garage Door and hJune Sleeping Bag — which were available only at his broadcasts.
Over the duration of the event, hJune channel was raided over 80 times, and its total number of followers grew by almost 106K over that period (the channel has a total of 689K followers). The streamer also received more than 3.6K subscriptions, 1/3 of which were gift subscriptions. His channel's approximate income over the event period totaled between $6.3K and $9.1K (depending on the cost of subscriptions in a particular region).
The most successful month for the Rust category on Twitch remains January 2021. The developers released a large patch back then, and also included a giveaway of exclusive drops from top streamers. At the end of that month, the AV number of the game's category on Twitch was 256K, and the Average Channels number was over 1.5K.
