With the coming of autumn, there was a significant change to the viewer preferences on Twitch. In the new article, Streams Charts will overview the new trends on the platform and name the most popular streamers and categories, as well as display the most viewed clip of September 2021.
Most popular Twitch categories in September
Compared to August, the ranking of the most popular Twitch categories in September remained almost unchanged. The same trio of leaders (Just Chatting, GTA V, and League of Legends) has remained intact since the very beginning of 2021.
Hours Watched for Just Chatting and League of Legends decreased by 9% and 20% respectively, while for GTA V this indicator increased by 2%. In the case of “Chatting” the presence of a large number of events in other Twitch categories is to blame for the decrease, while in the case of LoL the decrease is related to the insufficient number of media tournaments (with only European Masters 2021 Summer taking place in September).
In October, League of Legends will enjoy a huge Twitch on Twitch thanks to the final World Championship 2021 of the year. The best teams from all over the world will compete in the tournament for a prize pool of $2.2M and a share of in-game content sales.
Both Valorant and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive feature the highest Hours Watched growth. In September, major championships in the discipline from Riot Games (the LAN event VCT 2021 Masters 3) and in the shooter from Valve (BLAST Premier Fall Groups 2021) were held, featuring top participants.
Dota 2 dropped out of the top 10, and its Hours Watched indicator decreased to 34.4M hours (which is 17% less than in August). Overall, this is the lowest point of the game’s indicator on the platform over the past six months. The game from Valve has a long history of unstable performance on Twitch, but most likely October will mark its rise to the ranks of the platform’s leading titles because of The International with a record prize pool of $40M.
Most popular male and female streamers on Twitch in September
The most popular streamer on Twitch in September was xQcOW, holding the title for the second month in a row. In August, he returned to first place with 18.5M Hours Watched, but in the first month of autumn, he managed to score only 15.7M Hours Watched, exceeding the results of the nearest pursuer (auronplay) by 252K hours.
At the end of the month, xQcOW was one of the members at Twitch Shitcamp 2021, which took place September 27-30 and brought together many famous streamers, including content makers from 100 Thieves and OfflineTV. The streamer himself streamed for 6 hours from the event - he usually streams for 10 hours per day.
NICKMERCS, loud_coringa, и ibai are no longer in the top 5 of most watched male streamers, being replaced by Gaules (14.8M Hours Watched), shroud (9.6M) and MontanaBlack88 (8,9M). For shroud September became the second most productive month in 2021, as he managed to amass more Hours Watched only in May (13.1M). Last month he was one of the VCT Masters Berlin community casters, and he also did a few streams at New World with Twitch drops.
The first spot among female streamers was taken by Amouranth, who keeps occupying it since March this year. It is noteworthy that in September she was on the air less than in August, and yet collected 6% more Hours Watched and 22% more new followers. Just Chatting became her top category.
The second spot was taken by the streamer of the 100 Thieves club under the nickname Kyedae, who generated 2.34M Hours Watched, setting a new record for her channel. In September, the girl's Peak and Average Viewers indicators grew by 298% and 202%, respectively.
Kyedae’s performance was boosted by VCT 2021 Masters 3, which she covered on her channel. During the broadcast of the match between Sentinels and G2, Kyedae's peak viewership was 125K - she set a personal record, and she also ranked in the top 10 for Peak Viewers among female streamers on Twitch.
Interestingly, during one of the matches, the streamer insulted one of the tournament participants, commenting on his figure and appearance, after which she was bombarded with accusations of body-shaming as well as (according to the girl herself) death threats. Likely, the scandal served to further boost the figures of her channel.
Closing the top 5 were Saddummy, biyin_, and Jinnytty. In September, they collected 6%, 55%, and 3% more Hours Watched than in August, respectively. Their top categories were Diablo II: Resurrected, Minecraft, and Just Chatting.

Most popular broadcasts by Peak Viewers in September
The ranking of the most popular broadcasts in September was led by auronplay. The broadcast held by him on September 26 gathered 332.9K Peak Viewers, which is a new personal record for the streamer. The content creator also took the seventh spot in the ranking with his broadcast from September 4th that gathered 245.3K Peak Viewers.
The second and third spots feature the broadcasts of such studios as Maincast and ESL, which were covering the final of ESL Pro League Season 14 in CS:GO between NAVI and Team Vitality on September 12. The Russian-language broadcast gathered 313K Peak Viewers, while the English-language one fell 13K viewers short of that amount.
Closing the top 5 most popular broadcasts were the Fortnite broadcast of the streamer TheGrefg (262.7K viewers) and the VCT 2021 Masters 3 group stage match between G2 Esports and Sentinels (262.3K viewers). The former broadcast overtook the latter by only 346 viewers.
