Minecraft increased its stats several times in the Spanish-speaking Twitch audience in mid-August 2021. The reason for the sharp increase was the Tortilla Land roleplay server, created by streamers Auronplay and Perxitaa.
Tortilla Land was officially launched on August 16, 2021. The server was made, like any other RP project, to play a specific role or character on it. Players make up their own dialogues and behavior not on their own behalf, but on the character's they are playing as.
There were other RP servers in Minecraft before Tortilla Land was launched, but none of them managed to attract the same level of interest from viewers. Most role-playing users, including streamers, were focused on GTA V's RP servers, which offer far more gameplay options than Minecraft.
However, Tortilla Land has not become a regular RP-server in Minecraft. Auronplay and Perxitaa managed to draw a lot of attention to it due to the exclusivity of the project — only famous Spanish content-makers got access to it. Here you can see how Minecraft stats on Twitch changed after the launch of Tortilla Land.
Information about Tortilla Land appeared on the network back in June 2021. After that Minecraft statistics on Twitch began to increase gradually — from 1 million Hours Watched in July 19-25 to 4.2 million Hours Watched between August 9 and 15.
The boom was in the first week after the launch of Tortilla Land. Minecraft generated 12.8 million Hours Watched in seven days with an Average Viewers number of 126,6K spectators. A Peak Viewers number of the Minecraft stream was 220,4K people.
After that, interest in Minecraft among Spanish-speaking viewers faded slightly. In the second week after Tortilla Land launched, the game had a 4% decrease in Hours Watched, but its Average Viewers number increased to 137K — the highest number of the title during the period under review.
In the seventh week the number of Hours Watched decreased already by 6%, and the Average Viewers number decreased by 18.2%. At the same time there were 245.3K Peak Viewers — 1% less than the record number in the reporting period. In its eighth week, Minecraft has already accumulated 10.6 million Hours Watched with 111.6K Average Viewers.
What streamers gathered the most viewers?
The best result was shown by auronplay, one of the Tortilla Land creators. In eight weeks after the opening of the server, the streamer had 30.2 million Hours Watched. He reached these figures by being on air for 198 hours.
Ibai, another Spanish top streamer, was the runner-up. His gap from the leader by Hours Watched and Average Viewers was significant — more than 58%.
Juansguarnizo was in third place, generating 8.7 million Hours Watched. He was ahead of fourth-place TheGrefg, who had 5.5 million Hours Watched in the two months since the server was launched.
The Top-5 most popular streamers of the period under review was rounded out by Rubius, who had 3 million Hours Watched. Despite not the most impressive result, the streamer generated these Hours Watched in just 46 hours - the lowest number among the streamers of the Top-10.
Places from 6 to 10 were shared by xXxTheFocuSxXx, biyin_, aXoZer, LakshartNi and IamCristinini. They totaled more than 10.3 million Hours Watched. The most active player in the ranking was xXxTheFocuSxXx. He streamed Minecraft for 283.5 hours, which was the longest streaming time.
Despite the popularity of the Tortilla Land streams, they didn't have much of an impact on the overall Minecraft stats on Twitch. That was largely due to the fact that the game continues to get into and be at the top of the most popular categories on the platform.
However, RP projects definitely help both Minecraft and other games to show good stats. Back in early 2021, RP servers helped GTA V to become one of the most popular games on Twitch, and it is still very popular to this day.
