Throughout March 2026, IRL content continued to rule on TikTok Live. The platform’s audience is, at its core, one built around conversational, lifestyle, and personality-driven livestreaming, which few other platforms have managed to cultivate at the same scale. Real-world content generated more than four times the watch time of gaming across the month, reflecting where TikTok's broadest and most consistent audiences continue to gather.
Yet underneath that headline split, a gaming community is quietly taking shape. Esports in particular is finding genuine traction on the platform, and March's peak viewership data offered a compelling early signal of just how engaged that audience can be when the right competition comes along.
Vewership of IRL & gaming content on TikTok, March 2026

The overall split between TikTok's two major live content pillars was substantial. IRL content accumulated 1.607B Hours Watched across the month, while gaming content followed at 376.8M HW in March. The gap is wide, but gaming's figure is far from negligible — and as the peak viewership data would go on to show, its audience punches well above its weight when esports events draw fans to the platform.
Top TikTok categories by Peak Viewers, March 2026
The Chats category on TikTok landed at the top of the peak concurrent viewership rankings, leading with 3.54M Peak Viewers, double of the Fashion category with 1.77M PV in second place. However, following right behind these usual top categories for TikTok Live was Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, which reached 968,341 peak viewers, jumping ahead of both Outdoors and Talents to claim a top-three finish by concurrent audience.
MLBB’s viewership was boosted by the kickoff of numerous MPL leagues, such as the MPL Philippines on March 20. The opening weekends for these various circuits attracted hundreds of thousands of viewers to TikTok Live consistently, and the esports title continues to dominate mobile gaming viewership in Asia.
The 968,000 Peak Viewers figure was reached during the opening weekend for the MPL Indonesia, which took place in the final days of March. The result was a concentration of viewership that pushed MLBB well above categories with far greater total watch time, illustrating the intensity of TikTok's esports audience, even if it remains a developing one.

Outdoors and Talents — a broad category spanning music, dance, comedy, and creative performance — rounded out the top five at 910K PV and 413K PV, respectively, consistent with their standings as two of TikTok Live's most reliable performers outside of the platform's dominant IRL verticals.
Top TikTok categories by Hours Watched, March 2026
The Chats category dominated viewership for TikTok in March 2026 with just over 1 billion HW, a figure that comfortably leads everything else on the platform and speaks to TikTok Live's identity as a space for intimate, real-time connection between creators and their communities. Deceptively simple in format, it is the platform's single biggest draw by a considerable distance.

Fashion followed in second at 362.3M HW, a reflection of TikTok's deep roots in style, beauty, and consumer culture. Shopping streams and creator-led content have made the category one of the platform's most commercially significant verticals. Talents once again trailed Outdoors; the former category behind with 88.7M HW and the latter ahead with over 155M HW.
Closing out the top five was Roblox at 81.9 million HW, the sole gaming title to break into the overall watch time rankings and a consistent fixture in TikTok Live's upper tier thanks to the game's strong foothold among younger audiences on the platform. While MLBB continues to attract large peaks due to its esports events, Roblox maintains a more consistent, casual audience that can accumulate tens of millions of Hours Watched throughout a month.
TikTok Live continues to be dominated by IRL, chatting, and fashion content, but gaming is quickly finding a corner for itself on the livestreaming platform, especially in Asia, where TikTok Live has become a totally normalised viewing option for esports tournaments.
