Trackmania’s Deep Dip 2 event boosted the racing game to a new viewership record

Trackmania’s Deep Dip 2 event boosted the racing game to a new viewership record
Share:

Trackmania’s viewership recently underwent a total transformation thanks to a community-held event. The game’s viewership began climbing throughout 2021 and 2022 thanks to specific content creators achieving virality on various platforms, but this growth had plateaued off in the past couple of years. Deep Dip 2, a challenge event hosted by SparklingW, not only rejuvenated the game’s viewership, but gave it the racing title most-watched month ever in live streaming.

The event consisted of a Fodian challenge tower made up of 16 individual floors. Fodian games were popularised by Getting over it with Bennett Foddy, a game infamous for its difficulty and lack of checkpoints to save your progress. The game inspired many more to enter the genre, and games such as Trackmania with in-game map creation tools have seen many Fodian-style maps come and go.

The original Deep Dip was hosted in November 2022, with a shorter tower, smaller prize pool, and generally less attention than its sequel. Nevertheless, the event did see Trackmania record a 50%+ increase to its watch time for the month, and inspired SparklingW to slowly begin working on a sequel. Deep Dip 2 finally arrived in mid-2024, and it gave Trackmania the breath of fresh air it needed to set a new viewership record.

Trackmania Deep Dip 2 Viewership Statistics

Trackmania Deep Dip 2 Viewership Statistics

Throughout the event period, May 3 to June 11, Trackmania on Twitch recorded over 9.94M Hours Watched, marking an astronomical 510% increase in watch time compared to the previous period. It is worth noting that these statistics reflect the viewership of all Trackmania broadcasts, not just ones involved with the challenge event, but it is clearly visible in the game’s streams throughout the event that Deep Dip 2 was the source of the vast majority of viewership for this period.

As is expected, when viewership rises for a title, streamers reap the benefits. Whether it be due to Twitch Drops, hype for a new game, or a community-held event, streamers are the real winners of these scenarios. Trackmania recorded 411 Viewers per Channel, averaged across all broadcasters, throughout Deep Dip 2: this represented a 347% increase in this metric.

Wirtual was by far Trackmania’s most popular streamer throughout the event. The famed Trackmania documentarian has well-established himself as the game’s most popular content creator, and the viewership statistics for this period reflect this fact. Not only was he the most popular creator thanks to his 39.9K Peak Viewers on Twitch, he also recorded 28.1K PV on his YouTube Live account, claiming both top spots.

Following the Norwegian streamer was Bren_TM2. The French content creator and former professional Trackmania player was not only the third-most popular streamer to play Deep Dip 2, with 27.4K PV recorded, he also became the first player to actually finish Deep Dip 2. He took home $16K of the event’s total $32.6K prize pool, and cemented himself as one of Trackmania’s best players ever. Bren adds Deep Dip 2 champion to his trophy collection, only with his victories in Deep Dip 1, and the Trackmania World Tour 2023 - World Championship

Bren_TM2 was the first player to ascend to the top of Deep Dip 2

Hazardu, a Danish streamer and Trackmania player who also competed in the first Deep Dip alongside Bren, was the fourth-most popular streamer of the period, enabled by a Twitch Raid from Bren. He reached 18.5K PV in a broadcast on June 7, thanks to a Raid of 13.3K viewers from Bren. The Dane was followed by Lars_tm in 5th place.

The German streamer was also boosted in viewership by a Raid from Bren, but his dynamics show that his viewership was also critical in reaching the peak of 14K PV. The German streamer set multiple viewership records for his Twitch channel throughout Deep Dip 2: a testament to the power of community support within Trackmania.

eLconn21, who was the second streamer to finish the event, recorded 13.9K PV thanks to Deep Dip 2. This is particularly impressive considering that the Czechian player had not streamed on Twitch in almost a year before the event. Hazardu was in a similar situation; the Danish player had not streamed Trackmania since September of last year.

Most watched months for Trackmania on Twitch

Month Hours Watched Peak Viewers
May 2024 8 304 626 49 327
July 2020 7 052 830 150 784
May 2022 5 288 331 121 771
June 2021 4 488 109 237 588
April 2022
4 468 426
71 499

For the month of May, Trackmania recorded 8.3M Hours Watched on Twitch thanks to Deep Dip 2, which is a new monthly watch time record for the racing title. Viewership for the title increased dramatically throughout the month thanks to the event, and June might also be on track to become one of the game’s most-watched months ever; if the community can stand to keep streaming the game after the marathon streams of Deep Dip 2.

Although the Peak Channels metric recorded a decrease compared to the previous month, April was one of the strongest months in regards to Peak Channels for Trackmania this year. The Unique Channels metric shows not only that the number of channels streaming Trackmania increased for the month, but many more channels were able to breach the 25 viewers mark.

Trackmania experienced a new peak thanks to Deep Dip 2 and the community’s strong passion and support for the game. Therefore, let’s take a look at some of the streamers who made this record-setting month possible.

Aside from the streamers we have already looked at, Wirtual, Bren, Lars, and Hazardu, many of Trackmania’s most popular creators enjoyed significant boosts to their viewership throughout the event. Belgian streamer Scrapie was the fifth-most-watched streamer throughout the month, having accumulated 536K Hours Watched. Wirtual and Bren were the only two streamers to reach 7 figures of HW, Scrapie did enjoy a 56% increase to his watch time for the month.

Critically, Deep Dip 2’s rules stipulated that players must stream their finishing run in its entirety for it to count for the event. Not only did this significantly boost viewership, as players were encouraged to be constantly streaming on the off chance that they finished the map, but it also brought many old streamers who had stepped away streaming Trackmania back to the game.

Finnish streamer SBVille received 319K Hours Watched, throughout the event, and his May statistics show that the month was by far his most-watched month ever on Twitch. Wirtual had previously coached SBVille and called him Trackmania’s “fastest improving player”, and now he stands at the top of the game’s viewership. For May, he recorded 287K Hours Watched, marking a 5000% increase compared to his April viewership.

The final two spots of this top 10 were taken up by Jnic and Spammiej. Jnic set a new viewership for his channel through a different route; the streamer reached 6.8K PV while casting and covering various runs of the map, proving that one does not need to play the map necessarily to still enjoy a significant boost in viewership from the event. Spammiej recorded his second-most popular broadcast ever on Twitch, once again thanks to a Raid from the generous Bren_tm2.
