We have covered the most popular streamers, teams, and other streaming results in 2022, but until today we have not touched on the overall Twitch viewership statistics. In the new article, Streams Charts will tell you how the audience of the platform from Amazon has changed compared to 2021, and which categories have become the most popular for the year.

2022 saw little change to the Twitch audience. The platform's broadcasts began to receive slightly fewer Average Viewers, which negatively affected the Hours Watched. But at the same time, the streaming service’s Peak Viewers mark was slightly higher than in 2021.

The total number of Twitch channels grew slightly over the year, but their Peak and Average Viewers indicators were lower. The total number of games and categories on the platform has also noticeably increased, which indicates an even greater variety of content.

The most successful quarter of 2022 for Twitch was Q1 when viewers generated 5.97B Hours Watched. The last quarter of the year was the least successful, with 5.27B Hours Watched. At the same time, as you can see from the infographic below, 2022 lagged behind 2021 by Hours Watched in each of the quarters.

English, Spanish, Portuguese, and German are still the top streaming languages on Twitch, but their Hours Watched have declined slightly over the year.

The Japanese language became much more popular in 2022, but Ukrainian and Tagalog languages showed the largest increase in their share of Hours Watched over the year. At the same time, the largest drop in this metric, in comparison with the results of 2021, was demonstrated by the Malay, Greek, and Vietnamese languages.

The majority of Twitch streamers are still made up of Hispanic and English-speaking creators. At the same time, their total number on the platform also increased by several percents over the year.

However, the share of Ukrainian, Vietnamese, and Japanese streamer communities grew the most. Standing out among those who lost a sizable chunk of Twitch streamers in 2022 were the Danish, Greek, and Norwegian language segments.

The non-gaming Just Chatting category has once again become the most popular category on Twitch. At the same time, its Hours Watched over the year increased by several percent and exceeded the mark of 3.14B. Note that this is as much as 6% more than the total indicator of League of Legends and Grand Theft Auto V, which entered the top 3 categories of the year.

The popularity of the RP content that GTA 5 is famous for has shown a slight decrease. Against this background, the game lost almost a quarter of Hours Watched in a year, as well as the second spot in the LoL ranking.

2022 has been quite successful for Valorant on Twitch thanks in large part to the esports scene and community casting. It should be noted that the share of shooter's Hours Watched showed more growth than any other category in the top 10.

Fortnite and Minecraft, which have lost more than a third of their indicator for the year, as well as Call of Duty: Warzone, whose metric has dipped by almost half, experienced the largest drop in Hours Watched.

Against the background of the above-mentioned drop in Hours Watched, CS:GO and Apex Legends managed to rise in the ranking by three positions at once. Thanks to this, Dota 2 also improved its position in the top. And this is even though the indicator of these games also sank by several percents in 2022.
