Streams Charts continues overviewing the results of Twitch for Q2 2022. Previously, we talked about the most popular categories and streamers of the largest language segments, and now we will sum up overall performance of the platform from April to June.
In total, Twitch viewers generated more than 5.56 billion Hours Watched in Q2, which is 6.9% less compared to Q1. This was mostly because the average number of active channels decreased by almost 14%. At the same time, the platform’s Average Viewers decreased by 9.2%, while the Peak Viewers grew by 20.3%: most notably, new Twitch record was reached.
Most popular Twitch categories in Q2 2022
Just Chatting has traditionally become the platform’s most popular category for the quarter. Compared to the beginning of the year, its Hours Watched grew by 2%. The category reached a mark of over 2.3 million Peak Viewers (the highest between April and June) during the Reddit Pixel Battle 2022.
League of Legends and GTA V maintained their positions in the top 3 categories on Twitch, losing 10% and 12% of Hours Watched over the quarter, respectively. Valorant also retained its fourth spot but improved its score by 12%.
Closing the top 5 categories of Q2 was CS:GO, the shooter’s Hours Watched grew by as much as 30% thanks to the PGL Major and other esports tournaments. Fortnite has dropped to the seventh spot in the rankings, losing 12% of its quarterly figure. Meanwhile, the Apex Legends’ Hours Watched remained virtually unchanged.
Hours Watched of Dota 2 grew by 10% over the quarter thanks to ESL One The Stockholm Major 2022, MOBA’s first major of the year. The same indicator of Slots grew by 11% thanks to xQc joining the ranks of gambling streamers.
Closing the top 10 was Call of Duty: Warzone, which lost 14% of Hours Watched. Elden Ring, Lost Ark, and Escape From Tarkov suffered a drop in popularity over the quarter and fell outside the top 10 most popular categories.
Most popular Twitch streamers in Q2 2022
The most viewed Twitch streamer in Q2 2022 was xQc. Viewers spent more than 70.6M Hours Watched on its broadcasts between April and June, the figure is up 11% from Q1. The second spot was once again taken by Gaules, whose Hours Watched increased by 59% thanks to esports broadcasts dedicated to CS:GO.
Asmongold moved up three spots in the rankings and reached the third spot. His Hours Watched increased by 46% in Q2 thanks to a 47% increase in air time. Ibai ranked fourth in terms of Hours Watched, improving the indicator by 28%. Closing the top 5 was Auronplay, who climbed two spots with a 4% increase in Hours Watched in Q2. Trainwreckstv lost 26% of Hours Watched and moved to the sixth spot in the rating.
Leaving the top 10 were such channels as Fextralife, HasanAbi, elxokas, and ESL_CSGO – and their spots were taken by loltyler1, fps_shaka, tarik, and ROSHTEIN.
Ibai’s La Velada Del Año II broadcast broke Twitch's Peak Viewers record by gathering over 3.3M Peak Viewers. At the same time, the record-breaking stream collected more than 33% of the Spaniard's total Hours Watched for Q2.
The second and third spots went to the PGL Major Antwerp 2022 tournament broadcasts on CS:GO of Gaules and PGL, respectively. At the same time, the Brazilian’s mark of 708K Peak Viewers was reached during the match of Imperial vs Cloud9, while the official English broadcast of the major gathered 641K Peak Viewers during the grand final of NAVI grand versus FaZe Clan.
Among those streamers whose statistics we are sure about, Ibai became the leader in terms of followers gain. In the second quarter, his channel attracted more than 1.4 million new followers, with many of them becoming coming to the channel during the record-breaking stream.
