The second spring month has come to an end, so it is high time to sum it up. In a new Streams Charts article, we will tell you about the most popular categories, channels, and broadcasts of April on Twitch, as well as show you the most viewed clip of the month.
Most popular categories in April 2022
Just Chatting remains the most popular category on Twitch, increasing by 8% in Hours Watched in April. This was mainly due to Pixel Battle Reddit 2022 held at the beginning of the month, which featured many popular streamers. During the event, the category drew more than 2.3 million Peak Viewers — only Minecraft had more viewers on Twitch in 2022. You can find more information about the results of the event in our article.
League of Legends retains its second place thanks to the regional leagues held in April. However, the Riot Games MOBA almost lost to Grand Theft Auto V, which lagged behind LoL by fewer than 1 million Hours Watched.
The popularity of Elden Ring and Lost Ark in April waned so much that FromSoftware's February novelty dropped from third to eighth place, and Tripod Studio's MMORPG left the Top 10 categories of the month.
Valve's games attracted quite a lot of attention in April, thanks to the popularity of RMR and DPC tournaments, which were held on the threshold of the May majors. CS:GO went up to seventh place in the ranking, and Dota 2 secured ninth place — its first appearance in Twitch's Top 10 categories in 2022.
The buzz around World of Warcraft's third season, Shadowlands, has subsided, and the game has left the platform's Top 10 categories by Hours Watched. Call of Duty: Warzone returned to the Top 10 games on Twitch thanks to the launch of its third season, "Classified Arms".
Most Popular Channels in April 2022
xQc continues to be Twitch's most-watched streamer. He had previously led by a large margin in Hours Watched, but in April his total increased by another 40%. This result was achieved thanks to his participation in Pixel Battle Reddit 2022, and the Overwatch 2 PvP Beta access giveaway broadcasts. It is worth mentioning that due to the huge excitement during the latter event, Overwatch drew over 1.45 million Peak Viewers, which has become a new category record.
Gaules firmly takes second place in the ranking, with almost 16 million Hours Watched. CS:GO accounted for 11.9 million of the number, or approximately 20% of the category's total in April.
Asmongold's Hours Watched number rose by 15% in April, which helped him place third in the ranking. Notably, this happened despite the decline in popularity of Elden Ring and Lost Ark, where the streamer spent most of his time.
Auronplay returned to the Top 10 channels of the month and immediately took fourth place thanks to playing on the Grand Theft Auto V RP servers. Next comes Ibai, who reached 10 million followers in April. The streamer also broadcast GTA V, but most of his Hours Watched accounted for Just Chatting, including his participation in Pixel Battle Reddit 2022.
Kamet0, one of France's most popular streamers and founder of the esports organization Karmine Corp, spent much more time streaming in April than usual. His Hours Watched number grew by 182%, and his most popular category was Just Chatting, thanks to the streamer's participation in Pixel Battle Reddit 2022.
ESL_CSGO is the only organization channel in the Top 10 of April. Its Hours Watched number dropped by 30% compared to March, and the tournament operator's channel slipped from third to seventh place.
VALORANT Champions Tour 2022 community streamers tarik and fps_shaka accumulated 7.2 and 6.6 million Hours Watched in April, respectively, ranking 7th-8th among male streamers and 8th-9th in the overall ranking.
Among the popular streamers in the Slots category, only ROSHTEIN made it into the top 10 in April. Trainwreckstv did not join the Top 10, because he held only one streamer in the first half of the month.
Summit1g amassed 6.28 million Hours Watched in April, most of which were accumulated by Sea of Thieves broadcasts. This placed him in the Top 10 streamers of the month.
Most Popular Female Streamers in April 2022
Amouranth's Hours Watched number in April remained almost unchanged, but that was enough to regain first place. By contrast, the ViTuber ironmouse's results continued to fall for the second month in a row. Whereas in February the female streamer amassed more than 7 million Hours Watched, in April it was just 1.41 million.
In April, QTCinderella, Shylily and dda_ju left the ranking of the Top 10 female streamers on Twitch, and newcomers to the ranking are a Korean female streamer Jinnytty and Spanish-speaking female streamers rivers_gg and IJenz.
Most Popular Broadcasts in April 2022
The ranking is based on one most popular broadcast of each channel.
The most popular broadcast of April is a 14-hour Kamet0's Pixel Battle Reddit 2022 stream, which attracted more than 420K Peak Viewers.
Second and third place belong to the official broadcasts of the LoL regional leagues. The LCK Spring 2022 Grand final drew 354.4K Peak Viewers, and the LEC Spring 2022 decisive game was watched by 343.4K Peak Viewers.
Ibai's Pixel Battle Reddit 2022 stream ranks fourth by popularity, while xQc's broadcast of the Overwatch 2 PvP Beta giveaway rounds out the month's Top 5.
Most Popular Clip in April 2022
The most popular clip of the month is the episode from BigBoyCal123's broadcast. In the clip, the streamer is playing on the GTA V RP server, and his character gets killed for no reason by another player. This is a violation of the rules of role-playing games. Thus, the most popular clip of the month is a proof of guilt of a disreputable RP-gamer.
