On April 27, Overwatch reached the mark of over 1.45M Peak Viewers, setting a new record for the category on Twitch. This became possible thanks to the Overwatch 2 PvP Beta drops, which took place on the channels of the game’s partners.
Anyone could get access to the beta version of the long-awaited second part of the shooter. To do this, it was enough to spend four hours watching the broadcasts of Overwatch 2 partners on Twitch. The event lasted only six hours and will not happen again anytime soon. Note that the distribution took place on more than 200 channels, including those of such top streamers as xQc, Asmongold, Pokimane, and others.
The largest number of viewers during the campaign was amassed by xQc: 330K Peak Viewers (his new personal record), more than twice as many as A_Seagull and three times as many as mL7support. At the same time, the official Overwatch channel closed the top 10 in terms of this indicator by amassing 33K Peak Viewers.
Due to the huge hype, Overwatch has reached the 13th spot among categories in terms of Peak VIewers in the history of Twitch. In addition, the category ranked third in terms of audience size in 2022. It was outmatched only by Just Chatting during Pixel Battle Reddit 2022 and Minecraft during Twitch Rivals Squidcraft Games ft. Komanche.
Note that the distribution of Overwatch 2 PvP Beta gathered only 16% fewer Peak Viewers than the start of the Valorant closed beta in April 2020, which was also known for issuing the access to the beta in exchange for viewing.
The official release date for Overwatch 2 is still unknown. At the same time, the matches of Overwatch League 2022, which will begin in March, will already be played using the beta version of the game.
