December 2022 saw many interesting events that were actively covered on Twitch: The Game Awards and Coscu Army Awards, the Race to World First in World of Warcraft, the FIFA World Cup in Qatar and other events. At the same time, esports had a drop in audience reach — CS:GO fell out of the Top most watched disciplines, and Gaules was not included in the Top 10 most watched streamers on the platform for the first time in a long time. On the other hand, Call of Duty League has returned to Twitch! These and other monthly totals are in the Streams Charts article.
Most Watched Categories in December 2022
Just Chatting became the most watched category on Twitch by a wide margin. It accumulated 260.6 million Hours Watched in December, 4% more than the month before. In addition, the Peak Viewers number grew from 800K to slightly over 1 million.
GTA V retains its second place in the ranking, accumulating 98.2 million Hours Watched (-4.5%) in the last month of the year. The Peak Viewers number decreased by 31.5%.
World of Warcraft moved up from ninth to third place. In December, the iconic MMORPG accumulated 74.9 million HW and drew 314K PV. In comparison with November, the PV number fell by more than half, but thanks to the broadcasts of Race to World First the number of Hours Watched increased by 30 million.
There was an off-season lull in the League of Legends professional scene in December. In a month, the game's Twitch category racked up 70.8 million HW (-26%) and drew 226K PV.
Valorant retains fifth place without a significant drop in metrics with 65 million HW (-6%) and 243K PV (-15%). The tactical shooter Call of Duty: Warzone accumulated 51.9 million HW in December (the same number it had at the end of November). At the same time, the PV number of the category decreased from 619K (at the time of the Warzone 2.0 release) to 171K viewers.
Fortnite returned to the Top 10 of the ranking after a brief absence. In December, the Battle Royale category on Twitch accumulated 48.4 million HW and attracted 1.1 million PV. This online was achieved thanks to the in-game event Fracture, which started the fourth chapter in Fortnite. At that time, an updated map was shown, as well as cameos of the witcher Geralt, the Hulk and the blogger MrBeast.
Overwatch 2 dropped from seventh to eighth place in the ranking. In the last month of 2022, the game racked up 43.4 million HW and drew 223K PV.
Escape From Tarkov is in ninth place with 40.2 million HW and 538K PV. This audience reach was achieved thanks to the pre-New Year event from the developers, during which Twitch viewers could get drops of weapons, equipment and other in-game items in Escape From Tarkov for watching the game streams. The event itself started on December 29 and will run until January 7.
The last place in the Top is taken by Apex Legends — 34 million HW and 295K PV. It should be noted that CS:GO, Minecraft and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II were not included in the December ranking compared to November.

The Korean streamer handongsuk unexpectedly broke into the Top 10 thanks to Project Zomboid and League of Legends broadcasts. Last month, his channel accumulated 5.8 million HW.
It should be noted that the updated ranking does not include the Brazilian streamer Gaules, which ranked first in November. He didn't host many CS:GO tournaments broadcasts in December, instead he entertained his audience with let's-plays on various games, such as Ark: Survival Evolved, FIFA 23, Night of the Dead, Sea of Thieves and other titles.
If we had taken into account the overall results of the channels of organizations and tournament operators, Echo_Esports would have taken fourth place with 7.7 million HW thanks to the Race to World First in World of Warcraft broadcasts.
The official English-language channel Call of Duty, which in December hosted the first Major of the new CDL season, is in sixth place with 7.1 million HW. The speedrunners event RTA in Japan Winter 2022 with 6.8 million HW is also in the Top 10.

The Argentinean streamer coscu ranked seventh with 203.5K PV. AdinRoss takes eighth place in the ranking with 181.9K PV — the audience he managed to collect thanks to the broadcast with the scandalous former professional kickboxer Andrew Tate.
