Streams Charts provides the first monthly results of Twitch in 2023. In this article you will learn which Spanish streamers gathered hundreds of thousands of viewers on Minecraft broadcasts in January, and which female content creator turned out to be more popular than Amouranth.
Most Popular Twitch Categories in January 2023
Many Twitch categories increased their Hours Watched significantly in January, and Just Chatting retained its leadership in the top with a result of 262.4 million HW. The League of Legends saw a 77% increase, rising from fourth to second spot, owing its success to the start of esports regional leagues.
Escape from Tarkov takes third place, despite barely making it to the Top 10 at the end of December. This jump in popularity was driven by the New Year event organized by the developers, during which Twitch viewers could receive in-game items.
GTA V and Valorant retain their positions in the Top 5. Hours Watched of both games increased in January, but not as much as in League of Legends and Escape from Tarkov.
The second half of the ranking saw more radical changes. After a brief absence, Minecraft is back in the Top — the game amassed almost 72 million HW thanks to the Minecraft Extremo marathon that featured Auronplay, ibai, Rubius and other top streamers.
Dota 2 and CS:GO made a slightly less impressive comeback into the Top 10. As in League of Legends, new esports seasons started in these disciplines, so the categories gained more HW because of tournament broadcasts: Dota Pro Circuit, BLAST Premier, etc.
When it comes to categories that dropped out of the Top, we should first and foremost mention Apex Legends and Overwatch 2. Call of Duty: Warzone is also on the verge of dropping out, it's interesting whether the game will be able to make it to the Top 10 in February.
Most Popular Twitch Streamers in January 2023
The Canadian streamer xQc retained the first place in the Top 10 most popular Twitch streamers, but the rest of the ranking underwent interesting changes. First of all, the Brazilian streamer casimito dropped out of the Top 10. Secondly, Pestily and LVNDMARK, one of the most popular streamers of Escape from Tarkov, dropped out of the ranking. Instead, the Spanish streamers TheGrefg and Auronplay climbed to the Top: the first amassed 10 million HW thanks to the Premios ESLAND ceremony, and the second had almost 9.4 million HW thanks to the Minecraft Extremo streaming event. By the way, the same event helped improve the position of ElSpreen — he accumulated 6.8 million HW.
As for the other streamers, PaulinhoLOKObr, one of the most popular members of the Brazilian GTA V RP community, also made it into the top of the list in January. But KaiCenat, who ranked fourth in December, dropped out of the Top 10 in January. It should be noted that Kai was not as active in streaming at the beginning of the year, and at the end of the month also got a three-day ban on the platform.
If we had taken into account the channels of organizations, the second place is taken by the channel of ex-football player Gerard Pique's, which broadcasts matches of the Spanish Kings League, a media-football league, which accumulated over 11 million HW on Twitch in a month.
The fourth place in such sorting is taken by the GamesDoneQuick channel. The channel got 9.6 million HW owing to the Awesome Games Done Quick 2023 charity speedrun in January.
Most Popular Twitch Female Streamers in January 2023
Rivers_gg became the most popular female streamer in January 2023, racking up nearly 1.7 million HW in a month. In January, she spent most of her airtime in Just Chatting, and also played Minecraft and broadcast Kings League media-football matches (Rivers is the president of one of the teams). It is interesting that she also had the lowest Airtime number among all the female streamers in the Top.
The former leader among female streamers, Amouranth, unexpectedly dropped from first place to sixth. At the end of the month she had only 1.1 million HW, which is about half of what she usually accumulates in a month.
Most Popular Twitch Broadcasts in January 2023
The Spanish streamer TheGrefg became the absolute leader by Peak Viewers in January. At the beginning of the year, he held his own ceremony called Premios ESLAND, during which the best Spanish-speaking content creators in the live streaming industry were awarded in various categories. His event was seen by 1.75 million Peak Viewers. Several places in the Top are taken by the Minecraft Extremo broadcasts by top Spanish-speaking streamers.
Most Popular Twitch Clip of January 2023
A short clip of the streamer Mizkif, who did one of his broadcasts straight from the gym, became the most popular clip of the month. During the bench press he miscalculated his strength, which caused him to drop the bar on his chest. A video with this awkward (and dangerous!) situation got more than 564K views in January.
