Twitch results, June 2022: most popular categories, streamers, broadcasts, and clip of the month

Twitch results, June 2022: most popular categories, streamers, broadcasts, and clip of the month
Share:

Ibai was the main star of Twitch in June, breaking the Peak Viewers record and becoming the only streamer on the platform to reach the mark of over 3M concurrent viewers. In addition, Asmongold set a personal record, and Amouranth once again proved that she has no equal among female streamers in the long run. In a new article, Streams Charts provides the monthly overview and highlights the most popular Twitch categories and channels.

Most popular categories in June 2022

Most popular categories in June 2022

Traditionally leading among the categories on Twitch was Just Chatting. In June, the total Hours Watched slightly decreased (down 4.5%) but the category confidently outperformed the closest pursuers by more than twice.

Holding the second spot in the ranking was League of Legends. MOBA from Riot Games retained the status of Twitch’s leading game and esports discipline, despite its viewership decreasing by 25.5% compared to May. The drop in Peak Viewers is worth a separate mention: 468K in June against 1.37M in May. This is the expected rollback after the boost in viewership during the Mid-Season Invitational 2022.

Closing the top 3 was the GTA V category, although it also suffered a small decrease in the first month of summer: -13.7% in terms of Hours Watched and -16.4% in terms of Peak Viewers. Valorant and CS:GO retained the fourth and fifth spots in the ranking, but if the shooter from Riot Games even increased its performance a bit, the game from Valve has shown a strong decrease after the major: -40% in terms of Hours Watched and -68.4% in terms of Peak Viewers.

The situation with the Apex Legends category is similar to that of CS:GO. In May, the viewership of the battle royale grew because of the ALGS: Split 2 Playoffs LAN tournament, but in June there were no big events on the competitive scene. As a result, the category’s Hours Watched and Peak Viewers went -38.2% and -63.5%, respectively.

An interesting situation has developed with Fortnite. The game by Epic Games generated about the same number of Hours Watched as in May, but its Peak Viewers indicator grew by 4.5 times after the start of the third season. At the end of the month, Dota 2 dropped from the eighth to the tenth spot in the top categories ranking, its Hours Watched went down by 18%, and its Peak Viewers decreased by 2.6 times. The main reason for this decrease is the rollback after the end of ESL One Stockholm 2022.

The Slots category climbed one spot (+9.3%) while Minecraft dropped out of the top 10, giving way to Call of Duty: Warzone.

Most popular channels in June 2022

The most watched streamer in June was the Spanish caster ibai. Over the month, he generated 21.8M Hours Watched, which is three times more compared to his performance in May. Ibai also set the Peak Viewers record, attracting 3.3M Twitch users during his boxing show event La Velada Del Año II. This was the best result in the history of the platform.

XQc retained the second spot in the list of the most popular channels – although his monthly performance decreased slightly both in terms of Hours Watched (-14%) and Average Viewers (-12%). Things are even worse for Gaules. Just recently, the Brazilian CS:GO streamer was leading the May ranking thanks to PGL Major Antwerp 2022 broadcasts, but in June he had no such means of boosting his audience. Even commenting on BLAST Premier: Spring Finals 2022 didn't help. As a result, his Hours Watched, Peak Viewers, and Average Viewers decreased by 54%, 77%, and 54%, respectively.

The Spaniard auronplay climbed from the seventh to the fourth spot (+55%) over this month thanks to Minecraft, while Asmongold dropped from the third to the fifth spot (-47%). The latter was no longer able to generate content using the trial of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, and the release of Diablo Immortals, although it attracted some audience for a short while, didn’t help in the long run. The channel of the Japanese streamer fps_shaka climbed to the sixth spot in June (+78%), largely due to the VCT 2022: Japan Stage 2 Challengers community casting.

The seventh spot is occupied by the GamesDoneQuick charity marathon channel dedicated to speedrunning. In June, it generated 8.6M Hours Watched and gathered 97.9K Peak Viewers and 30.4K Average Viewers.

The performance of Germany's eliasn97 went up 40% in June allowing him to climb from the tenth to the eighth spot, mostly because of the broadcast from the Eligella Summer Games event. American Trainwreckstv dropped from the fifth to the ninth spot (-17%). In June, he was streaming slots and gaming sessions at online casinos as usual, and the drop in the ranking was mainly due to the faster growth of other channels. Closing the top 10 is ROSHTEIN (+42%) who is yet another competitor of Trainwreckstv in the gambling category.

Compared to the results of May, dropping out of the top 10 in June were: Tarik* (+10%), HasanAbi (+10%), and Loltyler1 (-73%). Of these three, only the last one has shown a heavy decrease in terms of Hours Watched, while the growth shown by others was too insignificant as compared to the more successful competitors.

*— it is important to note that should we exclude the organizations (GamesDoneQuick) from the ranking and limit it to the personal channels, Tarik would still enter the top 10 most popular streamers.

In June, Amouranth was pretty much seen only in the Pools, Hot Tubs, and Beaches category, generating 3.7M Hours Watched, which is +86% as compared to May. This allowed the streamer to easily top the ranking of the most popular girls on Twitch at the end of the month.

Korean Jinnytty (+54%) climbed from the fourth to the second spot in the ranking, while pokimane dropped from the second to the third spot (-6%) in June. Interestingly, at the end of the month, Amouranth generated more Hours Watched than her two closest pursuers combined.

The platform's most popular VTuber, ironmouse, spent 50% more time on air, returning to the level of her spring indicators. This allowed her channel to rise from the ninth to the sixth spot. Compared to the previous ranking, the Spaniard IamCristinini (-51%) dropped out of the top 10, her spot being taken by the Mexican rivers_gg (+11%).

Most popular broadcasts in June 2022

Most popular broadcasts in June 2022

Only a single most successful broadcast per channel was taken into account when compiling the ranking.

The most popular Twitch stream in June was Ibai's stream from his boxing show event La Velada Del Año II. The broadcast was watched by 3.3M Peak Viewers, which was an absolute record not only for Ibai, but also for the platform itself. By the way, thanks to this broadcast, the growth of Spaniard’s followers went up by 309%.

The second spot was taken by Asmongold, who attracted around 451.6K viewers during the conversational stream on June 1. Compared to ibai, this figure looks quite modest, but for an American it has become a record in his career: an increase of 4.5% (20K viewers) compared to February.

The top 5 most popular broadcasts of the month also featured auronplay’s broadcast of the Minecraft event, the match between Natus Vincere and Team Vitality in the BLAST Premier Spring Final 2022 CS:GO final, and the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase 2022 presentation.

Most viewed clip in June 2022

In June, the most viewed clip was a fragment from the broadcast of the Korean streamer 겨우디, when she and her friends shocked the audience. At the time of publication of the results of the month, the video has received more than 573K views.
