Most Watched Twitch Categories in May 2023

The top Twitch categories for May 2023 haven't changed much compared to April. Just Chatting remained at the top of the ranking, with 260 million Hours Watched. League of Legends, Valorant, Grand Theft Auto V, and CS:GO kept their places in the Top 5, though some positions shifted.

Compared to the previous month, League of Legends accumulated approximately 17% more total Hours Watched, and the CS:GO category grew by 10% in the same metric. This happened thanks to esports, specifically, two major international tournaments: the Mid-Season Invitational 2023 and BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023.

Among the newcomers to the Top 10, World of Warcraft returned after a long break, accumulating 52.5 million Hours Watched thanks to the hype surrounding the Race To World First. Another newcomer was a new game, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which was released on Nintendo Switch on May 12th. In contrast, Fortnite and Rust dropped out of the ranking amid the success of other titles.

The most popular Twitch channel in May is BLAST Premier, which streamed the official broadcast of the latest CS:GO major. The channel accumulated 12.6 million Hours Watched and surpassed many well-known streamers.

In second place is the channel of Canadian streamer xQc, who was the leader of the previous month. In May, he had fewer streams, and his Hours Watched result decreased by 24%. The channel of Brazilian streamer Gaules ranks third, but he also experienced a 15% drop compared to the previous month.

Spain's media football league, the Kings League, began its second season and immediately returned to the top of the streaming platform ranking. In May, its official channel accumulated 9.3 million Hours Watched and took fourth place in the overall ranking.

German streamer eliasn97 made significant progress — his channel rose to the eighth position in the ranking with 7.1 million HW. Viewers especially enjoyed eliasn97's Chilli Challenge stream, which the streamer hosted with friends on May 15 — nearly 114.4K viewers watched the event concurrently.

Excluding organizations and tournament operators, it's worth noting that Japanese streamer fps_shaka, a popular Valorant community caster, dropped out of the Top 10 of the ranking: in April, he ranked third.

Another interesting case is streamer PurpleBixi. He closely followed the presidential elections in Turkey, which helped him accumulate 5.5 million HW and set a new peak viewership record for the channel.

Most Popular Twitch Female Streamers in May 2023

Jinnytty became the most popular female streamer on Twitch in May. In a month, she increased her Hours Watched result by more than two times: from 1.6 million to 3.7 million. Such explosive popularity growth was attributed to the Waddlethon, a hiking marathon throughout Taiwan. Jinnytty began it in April and has been sharing her travels with others in live streams almost every day since then.

Rivers_gg, a popular female streamer from Mexico, takes second place in the ranking. Over the month, she accumulated 1.6 million HW, which is 33% more than in April. The growth was attributed to the start of the second season of the Kings League: Rivers_gg is an ambassador and owner of one of the teams and regularly streams league matches on her channel.

The third place in the female ranking goes to Korean streamer saddummy. Over the month, her channel accumulated almost 1.3 million HW thanks to Minecraft, The Legends of Zelda, and League of Legends streams.

The newcomers to the female ranking for May are Korean streamer ayatsunoyuni, Japanese henyathegenius, and RevedTV from Germany. The first two mainly played different games on their streams, while RevedTV broadcast IRL streams and travels with friends.
