Twitch results in October 2022: most popular categories, channels, broadcasts and clip of the month

Twitch results in October 2022: most popular categories, channels, broadcasts and clip of the month
Share:

The Streams Charts editorial staff has started summing up the results of October on Twitch. Last month, Overwatch 2 was released, after which the game was actively promoted on Twitch — even Amouranth, who became the most popular streamer among female streamers as usual, played it. But the Canadian male streamer xQc did not retain the leadership among male streamers, passing Gaules in first place.

Most Popular Categories in October 2022

A rapid spurt of Overwatch 2

Just Chatting remained the most watched Twitch category. In October, streamers totaled 241 million Hours Watched in this category, which is about 3% fewer than in September. The category's Peak Viewers number decreased slightly as well, to 738K.

League of Legends, which previously was at the bottom of Top 3, ranks second on the list. Broadcasts of the 2022 World Championship helped the category to accumulate nearly 160 million HW in a month: in comparison, the game had 114 million HW in September. In October, the category's PV number rose from 1 million to 1.58 million people.

A novelty title, Overwatch 2, takes third place, racking up 138.5 million HW in October. We should remind you that the sequel was released on October 4, and the game was actively streamed on Twitch during the month. A large part of the high interest of viewers has played a role in the fact that many streams provided giveaways of skins for the new character. The most watched streamers of the category are xQc and the content creators from the Fextralife channel.

The Grand Theft Auto V category retains its fourth place in the ranking. In September, it had 104 million HW, and in October that number dropped to 95.9 million HW (-8%). The most watched streamers of the month are PENTA from the U.S., JLTomy from France, as well as Brazilian streamers loud_coringa and PaulinhoLOKObr. All of them actively played on various RP servers.

Dota 2 almost doubled its result in October — from 47.5 million to 82.4 million HW. Its PV number increased by 3.5 times — from 287K to 1 million PV. The main reason for this leap was The International 2022: the World Championship remains the most popular tournament in the discipline from year to year.

The Valorant category fell from second to sixth place in a month — the total number of HW went down from 127 million to 69 million. We should remind you that there was a relative lull in the discipline in October, although tarik, fps_shaka and other streamers kept on broadcasting it regularly.

Seventh place in the ranking goes to the football simulator FIFA 23, released in late September. The latest installment of the most popular franchise gathered a lot of viewers: the category got 61 million HW in October. The most active streamers are eliasn97 from Germany and Castro_1021 from the U.S.

The shooter CS:GO is in eighth place in the list of most watched categories on Twitch in October. The game by Valve amassed 56.5 million HW in a month — 3% fewer than it had in September. There were a few relatively small tournaments by ESL and BLAST in the second month of Fall, but they can all be considered just a warm-up to IEM Rio Major 2022. We expect a rapid growth of the category in November.

Minecraft and World of Warcraft take last two places in the ranking, with 43.5 million and 33 million HW, respectively, in October. Both games dropped significantly over the last month: Minecraft's audience reach declined 30%, and World of Warcraft's one dropped 32%. However, they still managed to outpace Apex Legends and Fortnite and get into the Top 10.

Most Popular Channels in October 2022

Nix breaks into the Top 10 for the first time

Gaules became the most watched streamer in October. He managed to surpass even xQc by HW. The Brazilian streamer accumulated 15.55 million HW in a month, which is 75% more than he did in September. The broadcasts of IEM Road to Rio 2022 CS:GO matches helped him achieve this.

The Canadian streamer xQc passed up the lead in the ranking, as he saw his HW drop from 16.7 million to just 11.5 million. This is a result of him spending roughly 90 fewer hours on air than he did the month before. The main xQc categories in October are Overwatch 2 and Just Chatting.

KaiCenat went down from second to third position in the ranking. In October, the American streamer spent 121 hours on air, during which he accumulated 8.7 million HW. In comparison, his streams lasted 247 hours in September and totaled 12.1 million HW. Traditionally, KaiCenat most often broadcasted in the Just Chatting category, and set a record for the channel's PV on October 20 — 242K PV. This happened at a joint stream with the rapper LIL BABY.

The Spanish streamer auronplay takes fourth place in the ranking, with 8.43 million HW in October. This is 23% fewer than he had a month earlier. At the same time, the Airtime of the streamer remained virtually unchanged — 105 and 106 hours in the first two months of the Fall. Auronplay mostly broadcast Minecraft (he played on the TortillaLand RP server) and chatted with fans in Just Chatting.

Ibai, another popular Spanish streamer who returned to the Top 10, is in fifth place. In October, ibai spent 144 hours on air and racked up 7.95 million HW in that time. He mostly streamed in the League of Legends, Sports and Special Events categories. In particular, many viewers came to see his broadcast of the 2022 Ballon d'Or, a football awards ceremony, as well as the Balloon World Cup 2022 and Pokemon TwitchCup 2 championships, which he covered on his channel.

The Russian streamer Nix takes sixth place in the ranking with 7.9 million HW. In October, he became one of the most popular community casters of The International 2022, and even set a record for the channel's PV number — 206.4K concurrent viewers.

The German streamer eliasn97 dropped from sixth to seventh place. In October, his channel had 6.99 million HW, which is 13% fewer than a month earlier. He spent the most time in the Just Chatting and FIFA 23 categories. He also became the most popular FIFA streamer in October.

HasanAbi amassed 5.95 million HW last month and is in eighth place in the ranking. Interestingly, in September he had almost 6.2 million HW and ranked tenth. We can say that HasanAbi owes its rise to the lower activity of other streamers. He spent most of his Airtime in the Just Chatting category, discussing politics and other relevant social issues, as usual.

In ninth and tenth places in the ranking go to AdinRoss and summit1g — in October, they accumulated 5.78 million and 5.46 million HW, respectively. It should be noted that in the September ranking, these streamers were not in the Top 10. In October, tarik, fps_shaka, PaulinhoLOKObr and ElSpreen dropped out of the Top 10.

2022 World Championship beyond competition

If we add the channels of esports organizations to the ranking, the leader is the official Riot Games channel, where the matches of the 2022 World Championship were broadcasted. It accumulated 35.3 million HW. Third place in the ranking is taken by dota2ti channel with broadcasts of The International 2022 matches — the official streams had 12.5 million HW.

The Top 10 channels by HW in October also includes the Fextralife community (10.92 million HW), otplol_ (9 million HW) and ESL_CSGO (8.8 million HW) channels. The first one attracted an audience thanks to Overwatch 2 and skin drops, and the others broadcasted the League of Legends World Championship and the regional stage of IEM Road to Rio 2022 in CS:GO.

Most Popular Female Streamers in October 2022

Amouranth tops the ranking again

Amouranth became the most watched female streamer on Twitch once again in October, retaining and continuing to hold the lead among female streamers. She spent 228 hours on air in a month, racking up 2.6 million HW (3.5% more than she did in September). Amouranth streamed most often in the Just Chatting, Overwatch 2, and Pools, Hot Tubs, and Beaches categories.

It is also worth noting that Amouranth set the channel record for peak viewership — 82K — on October 17. This happened during a short broadcast when she talked about her husband's abusive attitude.

Shylily, a female Vtuber from Germany, comes in second with 1.54 million HW. Last month, she missed out on a Top 10 spot, but in October, she made it happen thanks to her broadcasts in the Just Chatting categories as well as her Alien: Isolation and Genshin Impact streams.

The Canadian female streamer Kyedae, who plays Valorant on her streamers, racked up 1.39 million HW in October. One of her most popular broadcasts was on October 13 when Kyedae tried playing as Harbor, the new Valorant agent.

As for the biggest drops in the ranking, ironmouse went down from 3rd to 8th place in a month, with nearly 29% fewer HW on her channel. Similarly, Jinnytty dropped from 4th to 9th place, losing about 22% of September's HW result.

Most Popular Broadcasts in October 2022

The ranking is based on the most popular broadcast of each channel.

The French streamer Squeezie, who participated in the GP Explorer show race, became the creator of the most popular broadcast in October. This broadcast was watched by more than a million PV.

The Spanish streamer ibai, who streamed the football awards ceremony Ballon d'Or 2022 ranks second. The awarding of Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema was watched by 614K people on the streamer's channel.

Broadcast of esports tournaments take most of the other places in the Top 10: 2022 World Championship, The International 2022 and IEM Road to Rio 2022 matches. The joint stream of KaiCenat and the American rapper Lil Baby rounds out the Top 10.

Most Popular Clip in October 2022

A clip from Amouranth's broadcast, during which she talked about an abusive attitude from her husband, became the most popular one on Twitch in October. The clip with the crying Twitch star has been viewed more than 944K times. Here Amouranth revealed that she has a husband who completely controls and exploits her for financial gain.
