Twitch Rivals saw both audiences and events become more unified in 2024

Twitch Rivals saw both audiences and events become more unified in 2024

Every year, Twitch hosts various special events for content creators to compete against one another, from casual games like Minecraft to more competitive-oriented titles. Twitch Rivals events blur the line between esports and casual events, usually enjoying significant viewership from the large creators' fanbases. In fact, the top events generate enough watch time to be considered some of the most-watched events for their respective games this year.

Throughout 2024, Twitch hosted over 40 different Twitch Rivals events, often featuring top creators from some of Twitch’s biggest regions. Streamers from North America, Latin America, and more, all came together for these events, which generated more than 35,000,000 hours of total watch time this year alone.

Most Watched Twitch Rivals Events 2024

The most-watched Twitch Rivals event of 2024 was undoubtedly the Squid Craft Games 3 (Survival Cup). Last year, the previous Squid Games also ended as the series’ #1 event. The Minecraft tournament was an instant success and each iteration of the series continues to dominate Twitch Rivals’ total viewership: Squid Games 3 was accountable for over 51% of the total Twitch Rivals 2024 watch time. This event also recorded the highest peak viewership for Twitch Rivals in 2024: just shy of 1.29M concurrent viewers.

Other Minecraft events, such as the Hunt & Run w/ IlloJuan, ft. Minecraft and the House of Nightmares ft. hannahxxrose & sylveey were also highly popular. These Minecraft events benefited from bringing some of the game’s most popular creators together, especially those from Latin America and Spain. Events featuring North American creators, such as Nicholas “Jynxzi” Stewart and Jason Thor “PirateSoftware” Hall, were generally not as popular as the Minecraft events featuring Spanish-speaking streamers.

Aside from these, the Rust Team Battle V was the only other event to reach millions of hours of watch time. This event was rather ambitious, featuring 150 streamers and content creators spread across 10 teams. The wide spread of streamers represented in this event led to high viewership from key European audiences, such as German and Spanish, alongside the North American and international English-speaking fans.

Compared to last year, Spanish-language streamers and creators completely dominated this year’s rankings of most-watched Twitch Rivals channels. Spanish streamer Raúl “auronplay” Álvarez Genes was the most-watched Twitch Rivals creator and also the only streamer to outperform the official Twitch Rivals channel, which was the sole English-language broadcaster of our ranking.

Auronplay was also the most popular broadcaster by peak concurrent viewers, having fallen just short of 275,000 concurrent viewers during the third Squid Games. Aside from him, other leading Spanish-language Twitch streamers like Rubén “Rubius” Doblas Gundersen, Juan “IlloJuan” García Gámez, and Iván “ElSpreen” Buhajeruk all enjoyed high viewership for these community events.

2024 also marked the first time that Kick channels appeared in our rankings of the most popular Twitch Rivals channels. Historically, Twitch Rivals has usually only been broadcast on Twitch, but with the purple platform moving away from exclusive contracts and the rise of multistreaming, many of Twitch’s most popular streamers from LATAM have begun broadcasting on Kick. While ElSpreen multicasted to both Twitch and Kick, some streamers like Luis “WestCol” Villa Álvarez have now left Twitch behind entirely.

Most Popular Languages and Games for Twitch Rivals 2024

Of the more than 35,000,000 hours of watch time generated by Twitch Rivals events this year, about two-thirds of this came from Spanish-language broadcasts. While English-language streamers are generally more popular on Twitch, the loyal and passionate audiences for LATAM and Spanish streamers seem the most receptive to these collaborative special events hosted by Twitch.

Other European languages like German and French received a significant portion of their watch time from the aforementioned Rust Team Battle, which featured over 150 streamers. Apart from this event, the two languages were generally not well-represented in the vast majority of Twitch Rivals events.

Generally, almost three-quarters of all Twitch Rivals events this year were based in Minecraft. The sandbox title is especially popular in Latin America, and the streamers from this region are continuously finding new and creative ways to entertain fans through the blocky title.

Compared to 2023, Twitch Rivals was more monolithic this year. Not only did Spanish audiences become a much more crucial part of the series, but Minecraft also entirely took over. Each year, the Twitch Rivals series brings some of the platform’s largest fan bases together to cheer for their favourite streamers. 2024 marked some serious interest and support from both Spanish and LATAM audiences, and the series settled down in a less diversified structure.
