Twitch Summary March 2021: The most popular streamers, categories and broadcasts

Twitch Summary March 2021: The most popular streamers, categories and broadcasts
Share:

The arrival of spring brought new trends to Twitch. While the hype around Rust has subsided, GTA V continues to dominate the platform. Using our new format, we will tell you about the most popular categories of the month, streamers, broadcasts, and new records.

Most popular categories of the month

Just Chatting category remained the undisputed leader in March, with 259M hours watched. The American streamer Ludwig contributed the most to the category's success with 7.2M hours watched.

Grand Theft Auto V climbed one spot higher as compared to February – even surpassing League of Legends. All of this was because of RP servers and all the fun brought by the streamers during the broadcast. We’ve covered this in more detail in a separate article.

The hype around Rust has died down. The game dropped eight spots in February and left the top 10 altogether in March. Meanwhile, Dota 2 was able to improve its results and return to the top. Valorant has shown much growth in terms of indicators and was able to overtake CS:GO for the first time since May 2020.

Most popular streamers of the month

xQcOW remains the leader in March, doubling his hours watched. Moreover, he was on the air for 102 hours longer. After Rust, Felix switched to GTA V, Just Chatting, Minecraft, and Dead by Daylight.

Holding the second spot was Ludwig, who has been continuing the marathon with an endless Twitch stream (where each paid subscription or donation from viewers extends the duration of the broadcast) for a couple of weeks now. During this time, Ludwig does not turn off the stream even when he sleeps. In a month, his channel was followed by 641K people.

The third spot was taken by Gaules, who was on air for 730 hours. In March, Alexandre covered the group stage matches of ESL Pro League Season 13 on his channel – as usual, attracting a large portion of the Portuguese-speaking audience.

As for the female streamers, the first spot went to the cosplayer Amouranth, who dedicated the most time to the Just Chatting and ASMR categories this month.

The second spot went to the most popular streamer of 2020 - Pokimane. Imane played Valorant throughout the month, and the game brought 55% of her total viewing hours in March.

Leslie “fuslie” took the third spot. She also played Valorant and Grand Theft Auto V – but was 3 million hours watched short of reaching the second spot.

Most popular broadcasts by peak viewers

The three most-watched broadcasts of March were hosted by British YouTuber Thomas “tommyinnit” Simons. He is one of the most demanded Minecraft streamers who plays on the famous DreamSMP server. On March 4th, his broadcast gathered 516K peak viewers – the month’s highest figure. And that’s while the stream lasted only 42 minutes.

Except for Thomas, entering the top 10 were the broadcasts from other DreamSMP participants - Tubbo, QuackityHQ, and Karljacobs.

The top 5 also featured the stream of Pqueen, who represents Turkey. She went on air with politician Mansur Yavaş, and their meeting was watched by 357K peak viewers.

The stream from GeorgeNotFound, which was dedicated to cooking dishes, took the eighth spot in the ranking with 307K peak viewers. When it comes to esports, standing out was the LEC Spring final (G2 Esports versus Schalke 04) with its 284K viewers.
