Weekends are the busiest days for streaming platforms: the finals of the most popular esports tournaments take place, and viewers can take a break from their studies and work to watch their favorite streamers. As the number of viewers increases, so does their activity in chats. Streams Charts has found out which broadcasts Twitch viewers were discussing the most during the last weekend (September 16-17).
Both days showed approximately equal chat activity from viewers. For example, an average of 35K messages were sent per hour of broadcast on Saturday in the chat of the most popular Twitch channel, and this figure increased to 35.3K messages on Sunday. The difference was very insignificant, especially compared to the average number of messages per hour across the platform (over 2.4 million). Thus, channels with the most active chatters account for only about 1-2% of the total volume of messages on the platform.
Specific peaks of activity can be observed on the platform. For example, users send fewer messages during the morning hours (GMT +0) compared to other times of the day. There are interesting trends regarding the languages of the streams as well: during the day, the most active viewers are watching streams of Korean streamers. However, in the evenings and at night, the initiative shifts to streamers who conduct broadcasts in English, Portuguese, and Spanish.
When it comes to content, reactions to funny videos, horror streams, and sports events are good triggers for chat activity.
Analysis Of Twitch Chatter Activity For September 16
On September 16, from 00:00 to 2:00, the most active viewers were on the channel of female Mexican streamer rivers_gg: they sent around 32K-33K messages an hour, which accounted for about 1.1% of all messages in the platform's chats during that period of time. During her late-night stream, rivers_gg engaged with viewers during her own show LoteRIVERS. Later that day, from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM, the rivers_gg channel reached the top again when she streamed the match between PIO FC and PORCINAS FC as part of the Queens League. In just one hour, they sent over 55K messages, which became the best result among all Twitch channels over the weekend.
Very emotional American streamer caseoh caught the attention of viewers with horror games. At 2:00 AM, he started streaming Poppy Playtime, during which viewers — who were scared alongside the streamer — sent over 33.1K messages.
From 3:00 AM to 6:00 AM, the highest viewer activity was on JonVlogs' channel, where he and his friends were holding an IRL stream from a nightclub. Hot dances, alcohol, and young girls generated significant interest among users in the chat. In the morning, viewer activity switched to Maumauzkofc's channel (he was at the same party with JonVlogs).
One of the top streamers on the platform, Asmongold, entertained viewers on his second channel, Zackrawrr, with his reaction to the iPhone 15 presentation. The streamer made jokes about Apple and its products, as well as commented on other videos and reactions on the topic. In just one hour, his channel reached 17.7K messages, but it was enough to become a leader on the platform.
From 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, the most talkative viewers were on the channels of Korean VTubers cotton__123 and vo_ine. Both are representatives of the ISEGYE IDOL agency, which was holding a meeting of their idols in the metaverse. The broadcast turned out to be quite cheerful, with a large number of jokes, absurd situations, and typical bugs for virtual reality, which did not leave viewers indifferent.
The highest number of messages was sent in the chat of popular French streamer Kamet0 from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM. During this time, he was hosting the KCX 3 event, where different line-ups of his team, Karmine Corp, played show matches against invited opponents. More details about it can be found here.
From 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, the most active chat was on xQc's channel. However, the Canadian streamer didn't have to do anything special to achieve this: firstly, he did his usual reactions to funny videos and then played Party Animals. During this time, his viewers sent tens of thousands of messages.
In the evening, the peak of chat activity on the platform shifted to the channel of Turkish streamer Hype. Viewers particularly enjoyed when he watched a replay of the show "Yengem Olur Musun?", which he participated in himself the day before. In this show, the streamer had to blindly choose a girl for a date, only seeing her childhood photos.
A little later, the channel Cellbit took the lead on Twitch for two hours, with the most active chatters on the platform. This was all thanks to the Brazilian streamer watching funny videos and playing the horror game Fear the Spotlight.
In the final hour of the day, leadership was taken over by Roier. He was supposed to start a stream with the QSMP Event, but the game server was unavailable, so the streamer watched videos of food tasters instead. Viewers enjoyed this type of content and left over 49.6K messages in the chat.
Analysis Of Twitch Chatter Activity For September 17
On September 17, from midnight until the morning, the most active viewers were on the channels of Roier, bagi, and caseoh_. The first two were playing the QSMP Event in Minecraft, while the latter was streaming various horror games throughout the night.
From 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM, the channel of Korean streamer handongsuk, who played Lost Ark, became the leader in terms of chat messages. Interestingly, after him, the leadership in terms of the number of chatters was held by other content creators from South Korea until 5:00 PM, including ordinary streamers and VTubers. Among them were arahashitabi_stellive, woowakgood, looksam, and cotton__123. For the most part, they engaged in interacting with viewers and watched funny videos on YouTube and TikTok.
Rivers_gg reached peak viewership around 5:00 PM when she was streaming the PIO FC vs ULTIMATE MOSTOLES match as part of the Kings League. Shortly after, Taiwanese streamer Uzra played Dark and Darker for several hours, forgetting to enable screen sharing: viewers were thrilled with such "full immersion" in the game.
Popular Colombian streamer Juans Guarnizo had high chat activity thanks to a Kings League match — he was covering the game of his team, ANIQUILADORES FC, against KUNISPORTS.
At the end of the day, the most active chats were on the channels of Cellbit, bagi, and xQc. The first one presented three new horror games he planned to play. Bagi continued playing at the QSMP event, and xQc did his usual reactions to videos from TikTok.
In addition to the overall statistics, we also identified the most popular messages. Mostly, the top ones consisted of emojis and emotes, but there was one interesting exception — "!betacode". Over the weekend, the World Series of Warzone 2023 Global Finals event took place, and viewers could get access to the beta version of Call of Duty Modern Warfare III by posting this phrase in the chat. In total, more than 43.6 thousand messages with the word "!betacode" were sent in the chat of the official callofduty channel on Twitch.
