World of Warcraft Forever draws 807K Peak Viewers and ignites huge chat activity

World of Warcraft Forever emerged as one of the biggest reveals from the recent BlizzCon 2026, and it has reignited livestreaming discussion and activity around the classic MMORPG. The announcement for the latest standalone title's beta phase also ended up being among the three most popular days for the WoW category on Twitch, according to Streams Charts.

Forever is a new permanent World of Warcraft experience alongside Modern and Classic, built around a reimagined version of original Azeroth. It introduces three new zones, more than 1,000 quests, nine dungeons, two raids, and the new playable Skyborne race.

Following its announcement on September 12, the reveal window generated over 21.85 million Hours Watched in seven days, before a beta phase kicked off on September 17 to extend the momentum.

World of Warcraft: Forever announcement and beta launch drive major livestreaming interest

The World of Warcraft: Forever reveal at BlizzCon 2026 reached 807,223 Peak Viewers on September 12, making it the third-highest peak among major WoW campaigns since 2019. Only the launches of WoW Classic and Shadowlands drew larger concurrent audiences in the comparison period.

Top WoW Campaign releases by release/launch week watch time

Across its first seven days, the reveal generated 21.85 million Hours Watched, the sixth-highest total among the campaigns tracked. The announcement also produced a 4.2× uplift over WoW’s normal viewing baseline, placing it behind only WoW Classic and Shadowlands in the benchmark table.

The campaign’s viewing was more diversified across platforms than many earlier WoW launches. Twitch still accounted for 88% of total viewing, but YouTube contributed 2.19 million Hours Watched over the seven-day reveal window—the largest YouTube total among the campaigns compared.

The beta launch on September 17 delivered a second major spike, reaching 599,618 Peak Viewers. It generated 16.10 million Hours Watched in its first five days, with a 4.3× uplift over WoW's baseline viewership. Of that total, Twitch accounted for 14.24 million Hours Watched, while YouTube and Kick contributed 1.33 million and 381,236 Hours Watched, respectively.

Chat activity surged for both reveal & beta launch

In the week before BlizzCon 2026, the 60 largest WoW channels averaged around 656.6K messages per day and 67.8K unique chatters across all of their content. The World of Warcraft: Forever reveal on September 12 sent those figures soaring to 1.83 million messages and 182,563 unique chatters — roughly 2.8 times and 2.7 times their respective pre-reveal averages.

Hourly chat dynamics for WoW on Twitch

Engagement was even more pronounced on WoW streams themselves. The reveal generated 5.34 million chat words, more than nine times the daily average recorded in the preceding week.

Discussion remained elevated on September 13, when the same channel cohort drew 1.13 million messages from 132,534 unique chatters, while WoW-stream chat produced 4.31 million words. Activity then cooled from its reveal-day high but stayed above the pre-event norm ahead of the beta.

The September 17 beta launch sparked another major surge: the 60-channel cohort logged 1.60 million messages and a window-high 206,411 unique chatters. WoW-specific chat reached 6.38 million words, the highest daily total in the available data. While the reveal drove more total messages, the beta attracted the broadest distinct chat audience and generated the strongest WoW-stream conversation.

Streams Charts Chat Analytics helps brands track how often they are mentioned across livestreaming chats, identify the channels driving those conversations, and better understand the audience response behind them.

While chat activity has expectedly declined across livestreaming since the beta launch, the title continues to do well in terms of viewership numbers. Between September 12 and 21, WoW sits in the second spot for the most-watched games on Twitch, around 1.7 million HW behind Grand Theft Auto V.

The beta launch of World of Warcraft: Forever and the hype surrounding the latest title from Blizzard Entertainment have shown yet again how influential games can be to the livestreaming space. A healthy generation of anticipation and engagement is almost always guaranteed to push up the viewership numbers and impact the ranking of categories on platforms.
