After more than a year of solely online competitions, the world has finally started lifting its restrictions, making in-person events possible again.
Thanks to that, the third edition of the popular French multi-gaming marathon ZLAN, organised by ZeratoR in partnership with ZQSD Productions, could again take place as a LAN competition in Lyon, France.
The competition ran through the weekend of June 4 to 6 and featured 192 players competing in trios (3v3 format) across 11 different titles, namely Valheim, Warcraft III: Reforged, Trials Rising, Trackmania, Quake Live, Farming Simulator, GeoGuessr, Battlerite Royale, Battlerite, Worms W.M.D. and a final surprise game that no one had seen coming — pétanque.
Total viewership metrics
Compared to last year’s online edition, the viewership performance of ZeratoR’s gaming marathon is showing slight growth in popularity. The event peaked at 248K Peak Viewers, which is a 21.89% increase compared to last year. During 31 hours of Air Time, the event gathered 5.46M Hours Watched — 38.64% more than the 2020’s edition.
ZLAN 2021 attracted 175K viewers on average, outperforming 2020’s edition by 29.35%. In total, 795K Unique Viewers tuned in to spectate the competition for a €50,001 prize pool, won by Team KEK, consisting of Etoiles, Kha_Len and KennyStream.
Top streamers
Many streamers were among the ZLAN’s participants, although ZeratoR had a significant lead all the way through the competition. His channel hosted the official broadcast of the tournament and brought in 4.25M Hours Watched, which is 77.96% of the total HW.
The second most-watched broadcast was Sardoche’s stream, which contributed 292K Hours Watched (5.35%), followed by Domingo with 250K HW (4.58%) and Solary with 123K (2.26%) HW.
The rest of the streamers who broadcasted the event marked together 538K Hours Watched, which is a 9.86% contribution to the total HW.
Top games
Out of 11 categories broadcasted on ZeratoR’s stream during the event, the most-watched was the Special Events category, which included all the non-competitive parts of the broadcast, as well as the grand final in pétanque (physical game). The category saw the highest volume of spectators, bringing in 978K Hours Watched — 22.97% of the total HW on ZeratoR’s stream.
As for actual games, Valheim became the most spectated title with the contribution of 647K Hours Watched (15.2%). Trackmania came second with 559K Hours Watched (13.14%), followed by Trial Rising — 482K HW (11.34%) and Quake Live — 466K HW (10.94%).
The least-spectated titles were Worms W.M.D. (85K HW), GeoGuessr (113K HW) and Battlerite (125K HW).
The provided viewership statistics clearly show that ZeratoR’s gaming marathon is a remarkably trendy event among the French audience. In fact, its results are comparable with some of the biggest esports tournaments, such as recent FLASHPOINT Season 3 in CS:GO or Six Invitational 2021 in Rainbow Six Siege.
While ZLAN 2021 was living its last hours, ZeratoR took the opportunity to announce another flagship event of his — the Trackmania Cup 2021, set to take place on July 17th.
