One of the perceived hallmarks of the live-streaming industry is that it doesn't discriminate and that anyone talented or relatable enough will eventually find their way to success. We have seen countless examples of content creators who have been at it for months and years before finally clicking one fine day.
The most recent example that comes to mind is Kai Cenat, who took Twitch by storm at the start of 2023 and is now a household name able to attract the likes of Nicki Minaj and Kevin Hart to his streams. This is what makes content creation so gratifying and popular among internet users, the ability to generate stories that are worth a read.
On June 21, a more recent instance of someone seeing success from out of nowhere made the rounds on social media and news outlets, leaving most netizens chuffed. The story pertains to chetter72, an Affiliate streamer on the purple platform who saw his channel explode in a week thanks to a unique backstory and help from one particular viewer.
Chetter72 is a broadcaster who usually plays Fortnite and occasionally dabbles in the Just Chatting steams. He has been streaming for a while, but barely found success, mostly streaming to a handful of (and sometimes zero) viewers.
All that changed during a live stream on June 15 when a viewer asked him about his backstory (which the creator alludes to in the About section of his Twitch page) and shared it on apps like TikTok. This led to a wave of support from online users that saw his account on the Amazon-owned streaming service suddenly become a hub of activity even as he gained more than 265k followers over the next few days.
The viewer, KindPenguin7, was scrolling through streamers on Twitch with no audience and stumbled upon Chetter's live broadcast. He was talking and streaming to nobody, which piqued Penguin's interest as he decided to give the creator a follow.
At that point, chetter72 had barely crossed 100 followers and averaged viewers in the single digits per stream. However, when KindPenguin7 asked him why he started streaming and to share his story, things took off. The streamer replied:
"My whole career has been entertaining. I worked at Disneyland and I had one of the coolest jobs ever. I was the voice of Crush the Turtle at the Turtle Talk with Crush show and it came to an abrupt end."
When pressed to share why he stopped doing something he clearly loved and wanted to talk about, chetter72 revealed:
"Why did I stop? I had some medical issues that made me not come to work a lot and they just said, 'We're gonna cut you out.' I had to go on disability...I miss it every day."
The broadcaster even sang his inquisitive viewer a Happy Birthday song in quite the wholesome moment. Penguin was suitably impressed by his story and talents, leaving behind a $450 donation, but that was not his biggest contribution.
The viewer went online and shared a clip of the encounter on places like TikTok, where it blew up. Soon after, other netizens thronged to chetter72's account to give him a follow, helping him grow at a monstrous rate over the next week as his count went up by almost 20K daily, giving him instant stardom and making the top name by followers gained on Twitch between June 14 and 20.
Moreover, his channel's viewership numbers shot up, reaching the thousands for all three crucial metrics — Hours Watched, Peak Viewers, and Average Viewers. He encourages viewers to ask about his job at Disney on chat, which has helped endear himself to audiences, and it seems they can't get enough of his backstory and gaming talents.
Such stories are what have made live streaming, and its related positive impact on social media, such a beloved interest among internet users today. With content creation also becoming a much more lucrative career option today, readers can be assured that they will come across a lot more such streamers from across the globe.
