Shooter fans have stirred up chaos in Hell once again! This time is all thanks to the release of DOOM: The Dark Ages, the newest installment in id Software’s legendary shooter franchise. While the official launch date was May 15, many gamers, including top streamers, gained early access through pre-orders and started ripping through demons two days ahead of schedule. The game made a strong debut on streaming platforms, drawing in hundreds of thousands of viewers to top content creators' livestreams.
DOOM stands as one of the most iconic and influential franchises in gaming history. Its massive popularity played a key role in shaping and popularizing the first-person shooter genre. For many of today’s gamers and streamers, the original DOOM titles were among the very first games they ever completed, which is why the franchise still holds such a special place in their hearts.
DOOM: The Dark Ages made a massive impact on the livestreaming scene during its first day of early access. Across all platforms, the game pulled in over 3.2 million Hours Watched (HW) — with more than 75% of that coming from Twitch alone. Peak concurrent viewership reached an impressive 211,016 viewers, while the number of unique channels streaming the game on day one hit 6,710.
On Twitch alone, the game's category racked up over 2.43 million HW, earning it the #2 spot across the entire platform, just barely behind Grand Theft Auto V.
The top DOOM: The Dark Ages streamer was American content creator Zack ‘’zackrawrr’’ Hoyt (better known as Asmongold). Although he streamed the game for just over two hours, he still managed to pull in more than 54,000 peak viewers during that short session.
Rounding out the top three streamers by peak viewership were Spanish creator Rubén ‘’Rubius’’ Doblas and Canadian esports legend Michael ‘’shroud’’ Grzesiek, who peaked at 25,000 and 24,000 concurrent viewers, respectively. Interestingly, shroud also led the DOOM: The Dark Ages category on Twitch in total watch time during the first day of early access.
Of the top 10 most-watched DOOM: The Dark Ages channels on May 13–14, nine were on Twitch. The only streamer from a different platform to break into the rankings was Félix ‘’xQc’’ Lengyel, who went live on Kick.
Some streamers kicked off full-on marathon sessions of DOOM: The Dark Ages, going live around the clock from day one. Channels like DraQu_, Denis ‘’WELOVEGAMES’’ Korobkov, and BarbarousKing each logged more than 20 hours of gameplay in the first 24 hours alone.
DOOM: The Dark Ages also caught the attention of several popular female streamers. Vtuber Zentreya, along with Daphne ‘’39daph’’ Wai and MissMikkaa, all went live with gameplay streams.
