DTR Fight becomes top French livestream event of 2024 and one of Twitch’s biggest

Sports events organized by streamers traditionally attract massive audiences, and the French streaming scene often leads the way. From Elevel All-Stars football matches to Squeezie's GP Explorer races, these events consistently pull in hundreds of thousands, even millions, of viewers. This weekend, Franco-Algerian content creator Billal 'RebeuDeter' Hakkar (also known as just Billy) added his name to this elite roster with his own sports event, which not only became his most successful livestream to date but also the biggest livestream event of 2024 hosted by a French streamer.

On December 7, the DTR Fight event took place at the Paris La Défense Arena, the largest indoor venue in Europe. The event featured four amateur fights with French content creators, as well as one professional match where the event organizer, RebeuDeter, faced off against Gregory Bouchelaghem, a well-known figure in French combat sports. The event attracted over 30,000 live spectators, and its livestreams amassed over 1.2 million concurrent viewers. And although RebeuDeter lost the main match, it hardly dampened the overall phenomenal success of the event.

RebeuDeter may have lost the fight, but he won the hearts of thousands of new fans

RebeuDeter is far from an unknown figure in the French content creation scene. He is well-known for his collaborations with other streamers like Kamel ‘Kameto’ Kebir, Mohamed ‘Amine’ Mahmoud, and more, and has also participated in Z Event, arguably the biggest gaming event in French livestreaming. However, it was after DTR Fight that he truly became a star. That one livestream alone attracted seven times more viewers than the previous personal record for Billy.

Although RebeuDeter is primarily known as a gaming content creator, his true passion lies in boxing, a fact he has openly acknowledged multiple times. The idea of hosting an event like DTR Fight had been on his mind for a long time, but it wasn't until this year that he was finally able to bring it to life.

DTR Fight showed strong viewer engagement throughout the entire event

The event aired for 3.5 hours, and the audience remained highly engaged throughout its duration. The average viewership on the main channel stayed at an impressive 930,000+ concurrent viewers, which is remarkably high for an event of this scale. For comparison, other major events in French streaming history, such as GP Explorer and Eleven All-Stars, experienced more significant viewership drops compared to the peak they reached.

The impressive engagement from the audience was no coincidence: on social media, fans praised the event for the fights themselves, as well as the production and the side content between the bouts.

Only Matue came close to reaching Billy's viewership milestone in 2024

By all major metrics, RebeuDeter's gala event became the most successful livestream endeavor in the French livestreaming space. The only streamer to show comparable results was AmineMatue, with the notorious rematch of Eleven All-Stars. All other events saw three or more times fewer viewers in 2024.

Just three French-speaking streamers have ever reached the milestone of 1 million concurrent viewers at their peak

The result becomes even more impressive when looking at the all-time ranking of French-speaking streamers. Only three have reached over a million viewers, and interestingly, all of these events are tied to sports in some way, whether it’s football or autosports.

Following the event, RebeuDeter could hardly contain his emotions. On Twitter, he shared a heartfelt story about the dramas, struggles, and challenges he faced, which, despite everything, didn't prevent him from filling one of the largest indoor arenas in the world. And perhaps the most striking feedback came from his fellow content creator, Loic:

“Seven years ago, you were looking for internships and work-study positions on Twitter, and now you’re filling the La Défense Arena. It’s insane.”
