Ludwig himself has commented publicly on YouTube’s position in the current livestreaming industry. He praised the potential of multistreaming as an ideal option for creators and also highlighted how YouTube Live’s success is mostly found in Asia. The demand for exclusive million-dollar contracts with North American creators might be behind YouTube, but the platform will continue to host some of the most-watched livestreaming content in the world.
Today my YouTube contract has officially ended
— ludwig (@LudwigAhgren) December 6, 2024
Honestly, unsure if I’ll stay on YouTube, go back to Twitch, or multi stream
I’m very proud of what I was able to do on YouTube for the past 3 years
And thanks to whoever keeps watching wherever I go next !
On December 6, 2024, Ludwig announced his YouTube Live contract had officially ended. The creator is unsure whether he will continue on YouTube Live, move to another platform, or start multistreaming on Twitch and YouTube Live. He was also dismissive of joining a smaller platform like Kick or Rumble, but Ludwig may expand his multistreaming efforts further down this new non-exclusive road for the creator.
During Ludwig’s content creation career while under his YouTube contract he accumulated over 49.7M Hours Watched spanning from late 2021 until December 2024, which is roughly the period of Ludwig’s contract. Ludwig’s presence on YouTube Live helped bolster his own YouTube video channel, which is one of his strongest social media channels.
Since signing the contract with YouTube, Ludwig’s channel size has more than doubled. While exclusively streaming live on YouTube, he received more than 3.6M new Subscribers, which followed his livestreaming and uploaded content. With 659 individual broadcasts hosted on YouTube, Ludwig’s viewership legacy on the platform spans a long period for the professional streamer.
Most popular YouTube Live streamers by peak concurrent viewership
At peak popularity, Ludwig’s channel reached 317K Peak Viewers. This peak viewership was recorded during his Mogul Chessboxing event; the night was definitely one of Ludwig’s highest-budget live events, and the viewership both online and in-person reflected the major efforts made for this evening of entertainment.
Aside from the chessboxing event, other moments of Ludwig’s broadcasts have reached virality. His second-most popular broadcast was his reaction to the face reveal of another content creator, Dream. Dream was wildly popular thanks to his successful YouTube channel, and Ludwig was one of the sizeable streamers to react to Dream’s face reveal live. For his reaction to Dream’s video, over 162K Peak Viewers tuned into Ludwig’s channel.
Ludwig also enjoyed the benefits of covering the Johnny Depp trial live on YouTube. He enjoyed strong reliable viewership on a daily basis when covering the event, and his final reaction for the verdict reading of the case spiked his viewership to 86.1K Peak Viewers. Ludwig also ran’s other community events, such as the Jeopardy-inspired game show, Mogul Money, as well as his creator dodgeball event, which brought various streamers and community members to compete against one another.
Whether Ludwig remains on YouTube, moves entirely to Twitch, or begins to multistream, his following of viewers will remain with him. His status as one of North America’s most popular streamers ever has been cemented, and Ludwig still has some time left in content creation. The streamer has not been quiet about his plans for the future, in which he sees himself grow beyond content creation in the upcoming years.
